Tell me, brothers, what did I see?

10 day ago, I was sitting outside, about an hour after sunset. Heard a strange noise that was not unlike an ICE, but not quite the same. The noise was in the sky. I looked up thru the trees and there was something headed north, moving pretty quick. I couldn't tell the height, maybe 3,000 ft above ground level. I could tell I was seeing the back of whatever it was. Certainly bigger than a backyard drone. Not a helicopter.

So, here's what I saw: two ovals of blue lights with two red lights in between. The blue lights were consistent and pretty bright. The red lights would flash first one then the other. No green/red flashing.

Sorta looked like this:

Swamp gas!!!!

It is super hard to tell the altitude or distance of light moving at night, with no frame of reference to other objects. Was it a slow and low drone or UAV one of the neighbors was flying, or a aircraft at several thousand feet hauling buns across the sky?

Likely you will never know for sure. Likely it was a local helicopter or aircraft. Something from Area 51 flying around in the middle of nowhere at night.

My first thought was a V-22 then I reread you post a few times...nav lights would include green unless your viewing angle obscured them.

I looked up your location and if you are indeed near White Sands, it is anybodies guess

sounds like an osprey, there are like 6 lighting conditions for flight, the rotors have tip lights that are either visual or switched to IR. I live right under the MIRAMAR MCAS flight path where they turn to catch the Julian NAVAID.

V22 it is. Seems like they have the ability to make colors on the rotor tips.

Thank you all for the answers!
