The difference is that we tolerate bad behavior now...and in many cases, encourage it (or our government forces us to do so through bad policy/decisions).

There are pictures of the Pacific north that look post apolitical. Portland house prices are down 10%, King county is following.

The way I feel, they beat a physical, normal humans life-time, into a short 20 year military career. So some genius figured out twenty years and out, and the loonies can go 30 years but they need to be on a bench just yellin'...don't matter what branch. Plus if you run off in the face of the enemy you are supposed to get shot to death by your shipmates ("Shot at dawn" look it up you if you haven't been thru boot ) . Don't think even the cops have to worry about that. So you age fast if you are sketchy and prone to flight instead of flght.-WW

We are for the first time in 10 years, preparing contingencies for an active shooter. This includes a LOT of training. Constant training and a lot of courses.

Well if your screenname is an indicator of your MOS then 20 is more than enough.

Pretty heart breaking...makes me sick.

“The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers.”

Same song, different day...love that So-crates dude he knew stuff-WW

Update. Graduation happened without a hitch. Nice.

I think Covid has people just a little more off balance than before. There is a cumulative effect somehow. Social removal makes us all de-evolve a bit.

Discipline and respect are missing.

We have failed our youth.

Add in psych meds, violent video games and access to weapons. The 18 year old man boy had $7500+ in gear! Wtf! Where did the $$$ come from

Also, entitlement.

Too many unsuccessful people think someone did them dirty so they are owed something.
Too many successful people think someone is doing them dirty so someone owes them more.
Too many formerly successful people think nothing should ever change including themselves--the loudest and most insufferable of all.

This issue is not confined to entitled youth and liberal viewpoints. I am currently dealing with a situation at the opposite end of that spectrum. I'll leave it at that.

Is there such a metal detector that it can determine mass or volume of metal that passes through it? One that keys and even a wrench wouldn't set off but a pistol would.

I'm not sure if such a thing is even possible but I think it would help alert staff (silently, like a light) if one were set off by someone walking into one of your stores with something metal and big.

I wonder if the long COVID situation has broken social bonds and norms. Oregon was far more locked down than most of the country. It messed with people. Maybe more than I realized. And the last two months have had endless rain...
Could not agree more^^^in reference to my recent post about "quiting" any news TV or online. I'm already noticing a difference in my mood^^^

It's a complex issue but in simplest terms, I think the trifecta of media's monetization of hate, COVID and the rise of conspiracy theory culture has broken the concept of reality for many people.

I have ran a manufacturing plant for 30 years, we hire at the low end of the spectrum. I have dealt with 1 murderer (removed wifes head with a butcher knife) 1 mass murderer / suicide (shot her three kids and then shot herself) 1 stabbing (stabbed his pregnant girlfriend in the stomach) 1 arsonist (burnt his girlfriends house down) 1 Black trench coat (white) guy (had to have security for myself and staff) and countless slugfests for which I have several on video (the ones that happened inside the plant) Also several folks who have been witnesses to shootings or have been shot themselves.
So to say this is a recent phenomenon, I say no. Its been here all along I just think most folks have never actually been exposed to it.
This country has HUGE mental health problems.....and we do nothing about it.

Visited Daytona Beach FL two weeks ago and it looked like a scene from end times. Awful place littered with passed out addicts holding needles.

Oh! And everyone is crazy. Some just hide it better than others.
It's much harder to hide these days with everyone walking around with cameras, the media, and social media.

There have always been crazy people. But now there are more people, so there are more crazy people.

I'm another 70 vintage, also not retired. Military retirement is different from private sector.

Exactly. Lots of crazy homeless folks everywhere. In Houston, they are here, but more spread out as Houston is very spread out.

And yes, there's always been bad stuff going on.
