Does that make them "ground chicken"?SmileWavy

The Costco chicken is their biggest "Loss Leader", second would be the $1.50 Hot Dog Deal.

Here in NZ most of the chicken sold in the supermarket is free range, or at least cage free. We tend to care about animal welfare around here. Fresh of the boat people are catered for with cheap caged and pumped full of antibiotics chickens, so their tastes are catered for as well.

whats funny is their chickens dont look any bigger than any other chicken in any store store.

different breeds get to different sizes.

Back in February of this year, the New York Times published an article on cheap chicken:

https://www.nytimes.com/video/opinion/100000007886421/factory-farming-chicken.html

Many years ago, I visited a chicken processing plant in Iowa. I was looking at their packaging lines as they shipped powdered eggs overseas. It was a very memorable experience. I didn't eat chicken for 6 months. The article brought back memories.

We are use to seeing chicken in plastic packages or in pieces at a meat counter. Nicely presented far removed from chicken processing reality.

What's better? This or eating egg birds that spend their life with 2 other chickens living in a wire cage that is about 2 foot cubed?

And people eat chicken because beef production is cruel...

6 weeks .. at 2 months they are over grown and unable to survive properly

I've seen this French chicken (poulet Bresse) several times on travel and cooking programs. Known as the Rolls Royce of chicken and apparently has a much different flavor profile. They say it actually tastes like chicken whereas ours is a watered down overly plump version of chicken. I believe you can get similar birds here in USA.

French supermarket chicken is already better then Belgian. Dutch chicken is water injected bland tasting.

Bresse is super tasty bird even compared to already great french regular chick

"Cage free" doesn't mean squat. None of the big boys keeps chickens in cages these days.

This is "cage free." It's not done for the benefit of the chickens.

We get most of our chicken and eggs from a vendor at a farmers market in Houston.
This is their farm.

We should be talking about the size of the PEOPLE that shop at Costco, not the chickens sold there. America is fat.

Seahawk 06-16-2022 11:52 AM

There is no way to put a bow around meat production anywhere on the planet and call it a Christmas Present.

My experience harvesting wild game has been pretty good, resulting in tasty meals and low stress for the "food".

Yeah, I get it. not everyone can stock their larder lie that.

People offended by this story, all vegans I presume.

stevej37 06-16-2022 12:36 PM

Every part of a butchered animal is used for something...efficiency.
