Neighbors are awesome.

A little insight, I really kind of don't really care much about lawn and garden maintenance. I've had the same mower for 30 years,
I think I've changed the oil once.
Maybe.
I sharpen the blade with an angle grinder every couple of summers, after it's eaten enough rocks that even I notice the cut is pretty shabby...

So two weeks ago, the briggs and stratton decides that it's time to retire and the blade flange and the crankshaft part ways. No one was hurt, the damage was internal.
I'm left with a lawn half-mown and a trip to the home center and a hole in my wallet in my immediate future.

That very afternoon, my neighbor, out of the blue, comes over just to say hi, see how I'm doing. I tell him the story of my mower and he tells me he decided to go electric this year and do I want his old mower? I figure, why not take a look - how bad can it be?

It turns out it's pretty nice! I had to replace the carb with an Amazon special, less than 20 bucks, and a new starter cord, about 15 bucks, and now I'm set to go! I transferred the Jason Giombi bobblehead from my old mower for continuity and replaced the blade stop device with a kill switch.

This one even has a drink holder! FTW!

Thanks, Neighbor!

Generally, it is good neighbours who get to enjoy good neighbours, so pat yourself on the back for that one.

Nice score.

I've never had one, but Snapper's supposed to make an excellent mower.

A drink holder may not work as good as you expect.
Nice Snapper!

Free mowers (and most anything else free) are the best...my Homlite mower was on the side of the road....free...that was 30 years ago.

for good karma insted of bining what is still sort of ok..put out by the road or better yet give it to your neighbor

Anything placed by the road in front of dad's house is gone within hours ... whether perfectly good, needing something minor (he/I put a note on it) or pure 100% junk....

I think Lamont lives nearby

Most of the time..
I've seen couches and stuffed chairs on the side of the road for sale.
Couches don't like rainstorms.

Same mower my folks had. I test drove it a few times and it cut just as well as my older model Snapper(1983). I love Snapper mowers. Your neighbor rocks!

Nice score, Herr Oberst. And when I say score - I mean having such a person who thinks of you. Not the mower, per se.

That said - as Steve said Snappers are considered the gold standard pretty much - so good on ya!

That bobble head is pretty epic!

We just have to keep paying it forward, eh?

This one has an oil filter! I'd never seen that on lawn and garden equipment!

I am on my second free honda
first one was a road side with a free sign
the second one was a c-list freebee
in between was an el-trick rigged to power tool batterys
but both hondas were just belts no real work
sure are hard to push without the drive belt

Nice score! I just got a Snapper mower from my neighbor as well, for free. Starts with one pull.
