Back in the 80s when I lived in Atlanta, a girl I was dating and I went to a Braves game. While waiting in the parking lot, a guy offered me a nice gold chain for $25. The girl I looked at it and we’re going to pass but he said it’s 18 karat gold or something. There was one link stamped with an 18K. Wanting to impress the girl, I bought it and after wearing it about a week, the gold started wearing off.😂

The other workers just laughed and said I would never see that $10

Generally...people are honest.

we were in DC one time when a street beggar came up to us.
we talked to him for a while.
he had a great personality, very interesting to talk to so i gave him money for his time. didnt care what he did with it.
i dont usually give beggars money

Other than a few occasions of buying someone a meal, I've never given $$ to anyone begging or asking.... never.

But the occasional "down & out" person who isn't seeking a handout.... it's rare, but sometimes I do .... just because.
