Location: Placerville, CA.... You know, the only place on Highway 50 between Sacramento and Lake Tahoe the you find signal lights. Above the fog most of the time and I can see the stars of the Milky Way 8 out of 10 nights. Kinda cool.....

Starlink? Take it or not?

Nice! We did a 39” J-mount using an old Dish Network base, I like the 6’ option. Although I am at the top of a 28’ extension ladder fiddling with our mount. I am not afraid of heights, but I will admit I was a little wobbly and my hands had that hollow tingly sensation working up there.

I don't even have the antenna rigged to miss the trees and my speeds exceeded Hughes (cancelled!) and I am about to figger out whether we use YouTube TV, Roku or one of those others to work with the AppleTV gizmo. BUT - all the computers and phones have broadband access. Our Direct TV went out in a rain storm ...but not Starlink.

I would be interested to hear others' opinions and feedback going forward.

Our cable service here is excellent but am always interested in new communications developments....
Well, the package arrived and upon looking at the base, I thought that there would be additional expenses to get another mount designed for the roof of our home... Yikes, $250 from Starlink!!! Then I revisited the post from Baz and thought that I had absolutely nothing to lose.

A little info about our home's environment - it is heavily wooded all around our home with mature sugar maple trees. Using the Starlink app, it looked like the only way to get a strong signal was to mount the receiver on the very peak of our home.

Following Baz's friend's statement, I walked outside our front door and placed the receiver in its stand right on our sidewalk and did the Starlink setup. I had recorded download and upload speeds with our current provider (which is really, really poor and unreliable internet) and compared it to the Starlink download and upload speeds... the results were nothing short of ABSOLUTELY amazing!!! We are seeing improvements that fall into the hundreds + percentages! Granted once our trees start getting their leaves this stellar service may change but we are smoking right now.

Code here requires the mast of an antenna to be grounded. This is in addition/separate from the cable which must also be grounded (the nearest possible to where it enters the house).
