Another Rolex Mugging

https://www.yahoo.com/news/armed-robbers-pistol-whip-man-173424600.html

Evidently, not a good time to flash your rolex...

(edit) Another sad sign of the times. My lottery fantasy of today is NOT cool cars, jewelry, etc. Instead, a very security oriented home. When out & about maintain a very low profile.

Was probably an imitation Rolex.
$60,000 would be a lot of jewels on that watch.

masraum 07-11-2022 11:32 AM

$60k is not your avg Rolex. If you've got a Rolex like that, it's a bit crazy to wear it as your daily. I wonder if there's any exaggeration.

This link includes a video (you don't really see any of the beating).

If the guy really did have a real gun, they were lucky that they weren't shot.

$60,000 I'd write off to a press exaggeration. The mugging? Cause to keep a low profile...

I have this ongoing discussion with my kids about going to shady places here in SA. Son wears my very first Tag Heuer that isn't very valuable but has the right dive watch look. Plus his A&M class ring that is so new is is bright enough to see from the moon.

Neither one believes me or their mother that you can get jacked.

On a brighter note: we used to get office lunch at 99 Ranch in Honolulu. Loved that place and all the restaurant stalls. Then a bubble drink to go.

Victims were an Asian man and woman

Nothing on the race of the perpetrators. Must have been a few white guys

The TV clip actually said: "African American"...

Watch the newscast video in the link that I posted. The race of the thieves was mentioned there.

Maybe, maybe not. It’s not hard to get a day/date up to $60 grand, you can get a Daytona, with no jewels, up to $75,000.

There are used Rolexes worth double that.

What $75k will buy:

Older Asian guy? I’m betting on a day/date.

Platinum?

I checked a couple of places out. Some diamonds and gold got you up to around $40k. There were a couple that were practically diamond crusted like a woman's watch and platinum, and those both said "call for price."

javadog 07-11-2022 01:06 PM

Yeah, that one is platinum. Still, there are used Daytonas, some in steel, that sell for twice that.

javadog 07-11-2022 01:10 PM

Want some bling? This one was in their catalog last year, starting at $485,350.

Call first, to get a current quote, which varies with the price of diamonds.

Buy all those plat daytonas you can get at the 75k msrp

Most iced out rolex in the wild are of the aftermarket variety, not that I'd even want factory set

$75k. I bought one that looks just like it in Hong Kong for $20, or two for $30.

My Rolex buying days are over. Y’all have at it.

I was just going to say the same thing. Either a Daytona or gold diamond encrusted GMT.

What does a $75,000 Rolex do that my Rolex Submariner I bought used in 2000 for $2500 or my $15 Casio can’t do?
