Extreme Rock Crawling Buggies.
Went to a local event of hard core crawler buggies,
many with rear wheel hydraulic steering. Photos don't do the scale and size of these rocks. It was a timed event and you got dinged points if you touched a cone or missed a gate. Major drop offs and sheer climbs!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Those things are impressive. I feel like those are the ninja/gymnast/ballet dancer with poise, grace, and agility.
Then there's the sledge hammer version (mostly climb hills, I think, so not exactly the same) I think the sledgehammer version would get boring after a couple of times. The ballet dancer version not so much. ![]()

Wouldn't it be easier (and cheaper, and faster) to walk?

Yes.
A neighbor spends quite a bit of time with an excavator rearranging obstacles for the next competition. Interesting to examine the creative engineering on these buggies up close. Some drivers spend over $100g on their custom builds. |

I often think the same thing of "extreme enduro".

Oh, I know - I love watching the Erzberg Rodeo, Redbull Romaniacs, and other extreme enduros. Hugely entertaining. Those guys spend as much time carrying their bikes as they do riding them. They would get to wherever it is they think they are going one hell of a lot faster if they didn't have to lug that damn motorcycle along with them.

The guy at 10:35 or so has the 1x plate and he looks like Joe Squid trying to get his bike out of the rocks.
It's amazing how all these guys are expert-class riders but these Hard Enduros just kick their freaking asses. But I guess it's good, because they get to buy new parts for their bike and new riding gear before the next event! (How those batteries and starters manage to last as well as they do is a testament to modern equipment!)
