Young, Pregnant, and Alone

Well, not alone anymore I guess. This cat adopted MrsWD a week ago and moved right in. MrsWD didn't exactly discourage it. The cat is tiny, not much more than a kitten and obviously very pregnant. I'll bet she doesn't weight more than 3 pounds even with the growing family onboard. Every vet in the area is booked up for weeks, so we're going to have to go it alone. We are worming her now and giving her flea treatments. MrsWD is planning a maternity ward and reading up on feline midwifery. I'm not exactly happy about more animals to take care of.

Her name is Mia, as in "Momma Mia" because, you know, she's going to be a momma.

Good job! My wife and I have done this Multiple times... Fortunately it worked out great with no complications each time. Usually 5 kitten litters. The little ones will need their mothers milk and warmth most of all. Keep the Mom well fed. All things you already know.... We built a big box with plenty of comfy blankets.

We kept some but adopted most out to great homes. Thank you for helping her!

Good for you and Mrs. WD. Kittens are fun but sometimes a job to get adopted out.

Jake, the cat lying on my lap at this moment is the remaining kitten from a family of rejects we took in about 15 years ago. He approves of Mrs. WD's actions.

A very fortunate kitty...not alone anymore. A tip of my hat to you. None of us can save the world, but you're saving a small piece of it.

Awesome.
I am looking for a pair of kittens but we are probably too far away.
Let me know if you want to try to work something out.
Next move is get the slut fixed.

How can every vet be booked for weeks?

Luckily people are adopting pets fast lately. The local pound sends kittens out fast as they come in.

Don't take this as anything more than info.

The local shelter/pound will abort a feral female cat if you bring her in to get fixed.

I like yard cats as much as the next guy, but I also make sure that I don't have more yard cats. Yard kittens are cute, but unless they are 100% fixed, it never ends.

Mrs. MD befriended a kitty, really young, very shy, but needed to be fed as she was thin as a rail. She gave her a name Kiki because she was a little kitty kitty. She was renamed Quickie, because well you know, she got knocked up really fast.

She had 3 the first litter, and it looked like two were going be with us for the long haul, until they were hit by cars, on the same evening, in separate events. I saw the second get whacked. He crossed the street to check out what I found later to his dead brother, and was hit coming back across the street.

Quickie, living up to her name, had already dropped their replacements, a litter of 4. We kept one and they are now both fixed.

Build a box, line it with blankets, the cat will take care of the rest. Instinct will take control.

More power to you
I do the same with cats.
I ran into the same problem with the cat doctors.
One of my outside cats had an infected leg form a fight.
I had to call at least ten vets before I could get one to look at it.
They said they were at least two weeks out with appointments and did not care if my cat was hurt.
Looks like the one that did will be getting my business

Cats are amazing, entertaining, affectionate, independent, graceful creatures and they deserve a life. Good for you! And your rodent problems, if any, will end.

If you adopt feral cats, consider going to a large animal vet and getting a bottle of duplocillin and a couple #20 needles and some 3ml syringes. This is penicillin that you inject intramuscular. Cat dosage is .5ml but a big cat can have up to a ml.

I have used this several times on our barn cat and you can squirt it in their eyes for an eye infection. It is $10 for a bottle that lasts until it expires. Great for abscesses.

Our vet says it’s because so many people put off routine wellness last year and they’re catching up. We called our old vet back where we used to live, booked into September. The other two local vets aren’t taking any new clients. We tried the 24 hour emergency vet and the wait is 3 to 4 hours plus they don’t do abortions. MrsWD is worried about her going through birth because she is so small. Hopefully the kittens will be scaled to her size.
Good to hear people are adopting. I don’t know how we would handle 4 or 5 cats on a long term basis.

I live in the country. Apparently this year someone dropped off their pandemic pets that they no longer wanted. The upshot of this is we have a new cat. She was hanging around the yard, very skittish. We fed her twice. After that she showed up on the back deck dutifully between 5-7pm daily. We started sitting out their with her. Definitely not a feral cat. She moved in on the fourth day. It has been 3 weeks now. The soonest vet appointment I could get is July 21st. Yup, they are booking way out. Anyway she is happy, warm, and well fed.

The Disney theme parks have a feral cat sterilization program, they catch, fix and then clip the top of one ear so they which are fixed and which aren’t.

There are no animal rescues in Ohio? We had a pregnant stray show up...fed her for a few days then took her to animal rescue where they know how to properly manage these situations. We kept in touch until babies were born and momma was adopted out.
