I love kidney beans in chile.
A good reason to look forward to fall.

Beans in there makes it stew or something other than Chili. Chili has no beans. My mom won the blue ribbon and a gold medal at the state fair of Oklahoma with her chill. Lots of chill peppers, not one bean. That does look good, but it ain’t chili.

Don't bring that idea down here, it won't go over well.

I actually don't care. I don't like a ton, but a few are OK. Beans are healthy (fiber and all that) so I put them in my chili, but I blast them in the food processor for a few secs so they are more of a chunky mush that adds fiber and thickens the chili without having to add masa.

I like all beans, except one....Lima beans.
If they are real small and tender..I'll eat them. The big mealy ones are terrible.

Don't care for soy beans either

Thought I would be eating the hell out of some snap peas, dogs have eaten about 95% of those

I'm from MI. I like beans (and tomatoes even!) in ground-beef chili.

I respect the TX tradition, and here in NM we do it (better) with pork and call it carne adovada.

Now don't get me started on my Michigan mother's "goulash" that includes sugar and skips any paprika in the recipe. I was raised on it so it brings some nostalgia. My wife turns colors, including green, at even the very mention of the stuff...

I will see if my sister in law has it. She got all my mom's recipes and that gold medal. I can tell you, if you don't like hot chili, you will not like it. It is swimming in real chili peppers. Just stirring it would make me break out in a sweat. It does not burn your mouth, but from your throat to the exit will feel the burn. You get to enjoy the burn the next day again.

As a kid with a cast iron gut I loved it. Once I hit 40, I had to have a bottle of Maalox next to me for after eating a bowl of it. She used to bring in a pot of it at my old work place for my birthday. Everyone loved it.

My boss said it was the first time in his life he has ever stood straight up in bed, and started running in place like a cartoon as the sheets and blankets went flying backwards as he tried to get traction to get to the bathroom in time. He said he leapt from the bed in a dead run and almost hit the door frame trying to make the corner to the hall . He had a real cleansing.

You've obviously never had the pleasure of a boiled cows tongue.
Thick, grey, and chewy like you wouldn't believe. The pleasure goes on and on.
Nothing extra to cover up the full experience of that goodness.

^^^ Was always a treat in grade school to have that. Mayo on the bread with 1/4" sliced tongue was excellent.

Now that sounds like an authentic experience. I'll look forward to it, but I'm an old chili eater and not easily intimidated.

The stuff my mother made..she called it Hungarian Goulash. I have no idea where that came from because we were a Dutch/German family.
It was good...she also made an Heirloom Pie that was to die for.
