There's a man out there who plays Beethoven for an old elephant.

And I'll reiterate the first comment on this video, his kindness makes me unbelievably happy.

This one, Laura, lives less than two miles from me. She was rescued from a circus that was closing. Been in various movies.

Five things to know about Laura the elephant:

She can play the harmonica.

The pop star Prince gave her his tambourine. She can play it with her tail. She met him when she was part of a TV commercial filmed in his Minnesota recording studio.

Laura Elizabeth is named after the mother of her owner, W.C. “Chuck” Walters.

Every day, 8,500-pound Laura eats 300 to 500 pounds of food — hay, fruit, vegetables and specialized elephant pellets — and drinks 250 gallons of water. Her owners grow and bale her hay and pile it to the rafters in the barn.

She performed in the Reno, Nev., casino stage show, “Hello, Hollywood, Hello,” in the mid-1980s. The extravaganza, performed on a 1-acre stage, featured a landing jet, an earthquake, a three-story waterfall, a levitating space dome and a cast of 133 singers and dancers. Laura was the disappearing elephant, in a box one minute. Then, wham! she was gone.

Oh my heart........

Info from the video:

Quote:
Mongkol is a 61-year-old former logging elephant. His captive-held life was spent hauling trees in the Thai forest. His body shape is deformed through hard labor, he lost his right eye and tusk in this brutal logging practice. Mongkol was rescued and brought to Elephants World to spend the rest of his days relaxing peacefully in freedom by the River Kwai. I discovered Mongkol is an extremely gentle, sensitive elephant who enjoys music, especially this slow movement by Beethoven which I play to him occasionally in the day and night.

That makes my eyes water. The kindness and compassion of some people is remarkable. Best to you, Mongkol! Another:

"Mongkol is a bull rescue elephant living in Thailand. Occasionally Mongkol when strolling along the river would stop by the piano. If we noticed him waiting I would go over and play him a few slow classical pieces."

Very cool, but having wild monkeys crawl all over you would be a little scary. I'd hate to have one that either hated my music or hated that I stopped playing music, or was just having a carpy day.

That's fantastic. They do say that music soothed the savage beast. The first few notes in, and I recognized it as a song by Lorde (Royals), and that makes me chuckle, because I'd have never in a million years imagined it being played on a trombone or being played to cows. I won't embed and derail the thread, but in case anyone is curious - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LFasFq4GJYM
