Starrett... "Assembled in the USA"

(I "manked up" the battery lid with an ill fitting coin. Maybe it's designed for US coins?)

In 25 years I have only broken two calipers. A pair of Mitutoyo and Starretts. Mitutoyo is hard to beat. Starrett lost the edge a long time ago on quality. Down to 5 pairs now.

The Stew Macs are for guitar setup and are indoor use only. Very well made and are serialized. No clue where they are made.

Jeff, that may be true about Starrett. I'm not going to argue the point but I will always support a non Chinese manufacturer when I can. (Starrett now has some Chinese manufactured products)

I don't have a problem with the Chinese people but I do have a problem with the CCP.

My first preference would be Australian made but all of our tool manufacturers now produce everything they sell in "their" Chinese factories.

I got these when I took a machine shop course at Southern Union State Community College. I was layed off from a tire manufacturer and I went back to school through the TRA program. The program paid for my tuition, books, and tools. They definitely have come in handy, in fact, I passed a kidney stone once and measured it with these calipers.

I bought this second hand about 10 years ago. It gets used but only about 3 or 4 times a year.

All you guys with your dials and < gasp > digital < gasp > read outs!

I have no idea what brand mine is, but it's similar to this.
It's probably not Starrett or Mitutoyo.

I've assisted with more than a few brakes jobs on these. Wish they would fit inside of 15" wheels...

Thank you Jeff, I'd like to think it's an analog to your MFI mastery.

God, it's so much fun, I'll tell you that.

The difference between you and I, Shaun, is that you're smart enough to have figured out how to make money pursuing your passion. Mine has done nothing but cost me money. Money well spent, mind you - I've had a ball.

I walk around my house turning the lights off to save money because I've got a new "project" in the works.
