I'd love to resurrect my Nikon F2 but digital is so flippin' easy.

Hey... Why not buy some film, install a fresh battery in your F2 and have some fun?

Keep an eye on this project - digital back for older film cameras. Clever design, not too expensive (if you have multiple film cameras), but status unclear.

No one likes waiting but we all did before digital. The Chemist for processing was my go to... lol
![]() Do you remember the one hour photo labs?

Now we can take 10 pics and delete the 9 we don't like.

No one here processes film anymore, and I dismantled / sold off my darkroom stuff many, many years ago.

I have some discs from a little kodak disc camera that I never had developed. I have always had them stored in the little protective sleeves that came with them and kept in a box. I wonder if there is a place that could still develope them?

A photo shop owner once said to me to bring my film in on a Wednesday afternoon as it's quiet (no weekend photos to process) and they renew the chemicals, tune the equipment, and the evening shift guys have lots of time to do a good job. |

I have more than a few film camera's but don't like 1) the wait time to see pics, 2) the cost of developing, 3) the cost of film it self, 4) the limitations imposed by film ie having to shoot a whole roll at one ASA setting before you can change it.
There are probably other 'things' about digital I can't think of right now, but the ability to shoot, download and print an image, in a matter of minutes, by myself, is worth the cost of a good digital camera to me. And yes, our local camera shop still does color film developing on site. They do have to send B&W out though.

I met a fellow at a local cars and coffee who shoots (digital) batches of 36; he says it forces him to pay close attention to the basics, and he feels like he gets better shooting days because of it. I don't have enough of an artistic eye, let alone that level of self control; scattershot and dump is my method.

Only a company like Leica could pull it off. Can you imagine Porsche restarting the 993 production line? Who in their right mind would buy them new, now?
![]() Seriously though, how are they marketing it relative to their other current film cameras, the MA and MP? I got seriously into film photography during the lockdown, and inevitably ended up with Leicas, IIIc and M4. I'm setup to home develop and DSLR (mirrorless, to be precise) scan. Planning to start doing darkroom stuff next year. I didn't even take photo classes in high school so all of this is new and exciting to me. Colour film price has gone through the roof just in the last 2 years I've been shooting. I mostly shoot B&W and now trying out bulk rollers to use with Kodak motion film stock in the future. I tried a Fujifilm X100 for a while, which is supposed to give you that "film" experience. It's a slow camera so that part is covered, but as soon as I pick up a digital camera, I revert back to shooting multiple frames, just because I can. Conversely with film I'm forcing myself not to be too stingy with the shots and actually experiment more.

The thing that got me to slow down and think about the photos I was shooting digitally, was adapting my manual focus lenses to a digital body. Nothing 'auto' about doing it that way so it really made me think. I will admit, I think I took better pictures when I shot that way.

I’ve owned and used (professionally) many Leica M-series cameras over the years…M2’s, 3’s, 4’s, 5’s, and 6’s (both ttl and non ttl versions), Compact, quiet/stealthy, precise, rugged…with absolutely stunning optics and rangefinder/viewfinders.
At any rate…here are a few snaps taken in Ethiopia with my Leicas - from my eight trips there, one into northern Tigray during the late 90’s conflict…the rest while working for a foundation photographing projects throughout the country: (Edit: way to much to express here about Ethiopia - I fell in love with that country and am completely heartbroken by what’s currently happening in Tigray, and can only hope that my many friends over there are safe) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I purposely put all my film bodies way in the back of my cabinet so they're a pain to get to for just that reason. Don't want to get caught fondling them.

I worked for 40 years in the photo industry. I have exposed, processed, and done every possible chore with film. From 110 Instamatic to shooting 8x10 frames of transparency film. Almost all done for money. Been there, done that, have the memories of using all the top end professional gear. All of it.
I do still own two film cameras. They have not been out of the camera case in many years. I can do more with my cell phone that 20 grand of Hassleblad equipment can do, except for a telephoto photo. I always have my cell phone with me. ![]() Happy snap from today. Point and shoot.
