MFI is about as close to that as we get without actually placing the nozzle into the cylinder. The injectors are quite far down the intake ports, and aimed right past the intake valve into the cylinders. The injectors open at about 230 psi. About as close to "direct injection" as we can get. Having the injector tips outside when the fire gets lit has many advantages.

As long as we're discussing FI - I'm running a combination of modified Motronic DME interfaced with a DBX programmable MAF attached to a plastic 964 era varioram where the Disa valve is controlled by a MSD rpm 'pillbox'.

That is all attached to a modified 3.4 in my '85 Targa. It's a monster, power everywhere.
