Started the shop.... Finally
 

Wanted this for ever.... costing so much more than I thought, but can't wait,with the life plan.
850 sqft plan was for two lifts one two post and four post , a toilet and sink, and lights and power.
If you you have suggestions that would be great THANKS!!!

Great project! You'll have fun. My garage is 32x25. I thought it would be expansive enough, but I've managed to clutter it up enough I feel it's a bit cramped now.

Can't wait to watch the progress of THIS shop.

If I could offer one suggestion, it would be to build a 10 x 12 or so shed somewhere handy that you can store stuff you don't want in your brand new shop. The mower, the chain saw, the patio furniture, the long tools....(I noticed the little red shed had to go...)...This would be the time to do it, with all the construction going on.

I have ridiculous amount of garage and storage space and I feel the same way:cool:

I have been shedding the weight this summer and giving a ton of stuff away...my rule of thumbs is five years: If I haven't used it, give it away with a two time usage clause or sell it.

Nice beginning. Did you install infloor heat? Standing on cold concrete floor is a killer on legs and knees. Especially in the winter. Looking good otherwise…

Some skylights might be nice. Hard to beat natural light, and you won't need to turn the lights on every time you go in to grab something.

Yes the red shed was a POS... Had to go ,will get another after the finally inspection,
I have thought of urinal... the toilet is not on the plans no heated floor,
I'll be lucky if I have the money to finish it this year.

Absolutely concur. Except, I would make it one of those trough type, floor to shoulder height, where aim is not an issue.

How thick is the concrete slab? Did you make it any thicker or add any extra rebar where the lifts will go, especially the two post lift?

When they poured the floor for my back garage, they added fiberglass strands to the concrete mix, they said that way they didn't need rebar across the whole thing. There's still bars around the edge in the footing. He also poured it so the edge was about 4" above the floor, so the walls sit up, and you can hose it out without worrying about getting the bottom of the walls all wet.

The inspector almost made me tear up my slab. He said the new code was two 8 foot grounding rods at least 8 feet apart, and tied into the rebar in the slab. He let it slide since that rule was so new (garage is now 8 years old or so), and I just have one grounding rod like we've always done.

1. Plan for heat and AC
2. Shop air compressor outside of the garage
3. Windows for cross flow ventilation
4. Insulate the crap out of it
5. Lots of outlets with at least one 220 volt
6. Lots of lighting
7. Ceiling or wall mounted fans
8. Drop lights on reels from the ceiling
9. At least one heavy duty work bench
10. Wall and base cabinets for storage

I made a huge mistake with mine.....only 60 Amps.....

HVAC, Air Comp, Lift, Welder.

If woodworking... install a system to collect sawdust. My buddy had it in NY and it was pretty dang cool.

If it is, then you've sized your shop right as it looks bigger than your house :cool:
