She was an amazing figure, and regardless of the argument of monarchy being fair or not, when its inherited status.. I don't think anybody voted in power has ever done a better job at being head of state.
She served with elegance, grace, and brought stability and leadership to her people.
One of the most amazing feats of her courage and resolve was when she was on horseback for Trooping the Colours.. and a man did an attempt on her life, Can't remember if it was real bullets or just blanks, doesn't matter , she didn't know.
Her horse reacted, she sat amazon, but kept it cool as a cuccumber , collected her horse and just kept going.
She did not get ushered out by no secret service, she did not change her plans for the day, she just carried on.
She will be a tough act to follow, and though not my queen, not my country, like that old blanket I have here from my grandma, comforting to have around and I'll miss knowing she's out there as a beacon of stability for Britain and the World.

The official Queue. Apparently this was pre-prepared who knows how long ago. Nobody does this stuff better than the English.

Officials are telling people to be prepared to stand in line for up to 12 hours and there will probably be no time to sit because the line keeps moving.

I've heard the wait is closer to 24-30 hours.

So how many weeks does it take to bury a dead queen? Will this go on for another month or so?

Only the French can even remotely come close to the pomp and ceremony of the British. I guess after 2,000 years of practice and tradition there is a ceremony for every possible step. Chunk her in the ground already.

911 Rod 09-16-2022 08:05 AM

Is it an open coffin?

svandamme 09-16-2022 08:28 AM

or JFK's funeral for that matter

GH85Carrera 09-16-2022 08:47 AM

We learned from our former masters about pomp and ceremony. We are just beginners.

svandamme 09-16-2022 09:22 AM

some would say, extremely gifted beginners at it

, hell even just a football match has bigger bands then many smaller nations have parades on their national holiday :D

Yea, I agree, she was a great lady. The monarchy in all forms across the globe is a total waste of money and time, and just a way to have more pomp and ceremony. Not my problem, as other countries are free to play dress up and have long silly traditions.

You care so little but continue to take the time to post about it......interesting.

craigster59 09-17-2022 09:19 PM

To try and bring this back around to a respectful thread, it will be interesting on Monday with the funeral.

My Wife was born in West Germany and follows the Royals and loved Diana. She will be getting up early to watch the procession "Live" as she also will with the crowning of King Charles.

Some love pomp and circumstance and respect. And a bit of courtesy doesn't hurt either.

craigster59 09-17-2022 09:25 PM

And as far as Britain goes, 95% of the country has only known her as The Queen. That is one long reign.

URY914 09-20-2022 07:34 AM

The last sentence of this story....

He has now been reduced to The Royal Dog Caretaker.

"WINDSOR (Reuters) - Queen Elizabeth's black pony Emma watched the monarch's funeral procession pass by in the grounds of Windsor Castle, where it was held on a lead by a groomsman.

The queen's two corgis, Sandy and Muick, were also brought out for the arrival of the coffin at the castle, where Elizabeth was to be buried later in the day following a grand state funeral.

Held on leashes by palace staff, the dogs patiently waited in the forecourt of the castle.

The queen, who died this month aged 96 after 70 years on the throne, had a lifelong love of corgis and horses and enjoyed riding throughout her life. Her second son, Prince Andrew, will now take care of the dogs."
