Have we discussed car mounts for cell phones?
I've been using the ones that clip in/onto the air vents, but I hate them. I need all the cold air I can get in AZ. I think it's too hot for a windshield suction cup to be reliable and I don't want to give up one of my cup holders. I have Apple Car Play, so I use that big display for most stuff. But I want to be able to see and reach my phone easily. My car is my office. What does everyone like?

I made my own using a stick-on Garmin GPS mounting boss on the back of the phone and the corresponding Garmin socket attached to some old loc-line that I had laying around. Strapped it down to the dash with some bent sheetmetal and zip ties. I'll be the first to agree that it looks ghetto as hell, but it serves the purpose. Keeps the phone handy, adjustable and out of the way simultaneously.
Space is at a premium in this pickup. Not proud of this, not ashamed, either. ![]() ![]()

I bought a mount from Proclip for my Infiniti G37. It fits great. My wife's Macan has a Rennline mount. I hate the vent ones as well.

For the street, I use an old iPhone and an adapter I made for water temps and speed. For the track it shows lap times.
Edit: I found when I used a windshield suction cup phone holder, blocked my vision going around certain turns. ![]() |

I like the Rennlines for my Porsches. I might try the carmount thing for the minivan.

The metal plate in the Rennline one interferes with the magnetic charging, does it not?

The one in my wife's Macan has an optional magnetic charging capability.

How does that Scosche mount to the dash? Does a suction cup really hold onto leather or vinyl?

Which car, Rick?
I like the map apps to be as close to my sight line as possible. For my Tundra I have a really nice (not cheap) metal phone holder that screws into the top of the a/c vent so you can set the phone high and have 2/3's of the a/c circulating from that vent. Specialty item for Tundra's. It also gives me a great sight line. For the LC, another specialty holder, not as nice, that fits into a void on my vintage LC.

This for my BMW 530i. I don't really need it for map viewing, as my Apple Car Play displays the map on my dash display. However, there are times when it takes a while to reconnect and then I have to my phone display for the map. I need the phone to be within reach, but not necessarily right in front of my eyes.

Did so fishing (engineering meeting - software, yikes!) and there are some interesting options:
https://www.amazon.com/phone-holder-bmw/s?k=phone+holder+for+bmw I had a magnetic holder for years in the Tacoma, no issues at all. I tried the suction holder route, window and dash, but even here in Maryland ii the summer the amount of heat wore them out quickly. That and I like to use sun shades.

I have the magnetic phone holder in my 911 that clamps around the clock. It works great.
My wife's Macan was ordered with Apple Car play. If we plug in the phone and put it in the armrest holder, the phone's display is on the cars dash and the phone can be operated from the dash, but usually we use it for a GPS in places out of town. Of course the Macan is connected to the car via Bluetooth so calls are done hands free for just local driving or on trips. Both my 911 and my El Camino have head units that can connect to the phone via Bluetooth. I never answer the phone or use it while driving. Just leave a message, it can wait until I am stopped. Hang up the damn phone and drive!
