Thanks for that. The greatest lineup of one of the greatest bands of all time, at the height of their incredible powers. I love those guys, miss Jon immensely. One of the greatest minds to ever play rock ‘n’ roll.

Don't have time to watch now, but will. I was a late comer to Deep Purple with my first album being "Perfect Strangers" in 1984. The title track is awesome along with "Knocking at Your Back Door"...

Perfect Strangers was the first album recorded by this same lineup of members after they’d been apart for years. They still had it, it was another really good album.

Deep Purple was great...but there was another similar style band in the same time frame that I liked more.
Uriah Heep

I first saw Deep Purple in about 1972-73, when I was all of twelve or thirteen years old, when they were touring Machine Head. Made an impression. The one thing I did not understand, however, was Ritchie Blackmore getting all pissed off and smashing up his guitar. I learned later there were some feedback issues with his guitar and amp combination. I wonder how many classic, original Strats he busted up over the years, and what they would be worth today. Oh, and their first (with the gold cover) Made in Japan still gets regular play around here. One of the best live albums ever.

Uriah Heep - that album "Look At Yourself" with the mirrored cover...I remember it well, along with Machine Head and loads of others (my freshman roommate's brother was a DJ who kept us well supplied with music) - plus numerous tokes of that wonderfully aromatic and comparatively mild weed we passed around back then which did not simply knock us out but allowed the good times to roll for hours and hours...

We listened to "Machine Head" on 8 track......in high school......but the first song I remember hearing from them was "Hush" while in Jr. High....only had a portable record player at that time....

I can tell you from experience, playing the title song from that album on the drums will make you wish you had taken up bass guitar instead.

Deep Purple is still one of the greatest rock bands ever IMO. Saw them in 1972 with Uriah Heep at the Swing Auditorium in San Bernardino. My ears are still ringing from that show and I wore the grooves out on all their records.

I saw them in Detroit on that same tour. I think I should sue ‘em for my hearing loss.

You can find videos on YouTube of how to play just about any decent drum part of any decent rock song.
