And the tournament director is a cop!

They were caught cheating in 2021 as well. Once a cheater, always a cheater.

The fishing Director told him to leave, before the crowd beat their asses.

Saw that as well. Apparently failed a post tournament polygraph and lost a six figure payout.

The video on this is just crazy. The cheater guy just stands there looking at the official as he’s pulling weights out. Read on another sight his partner locked himself in his truck in the parking lot. Surprised this didn’t turn into violence and assault charges for a lot of guys there.

Hmm, seems that could be considered fraud/theft if they won. Even if they aren't charged, seems they should be banned from any future tournaments.

What confuses me is the comments about calling the cops and involving law enforcement… they cheated in a fishing tournament but I don’t think they committed a crime. This is no different than Smokey Unick cheating at NASCAR back on the day… it’s only cheating if you get caught…

I don’t condone this but like KC, somehow I’m not surprised. If anything, it will bring more interest and drama to the sport. I see these guys as the ‘bad boys’ of rasslin… the media is having a field day, more people will pay attention, and the sport will be better off for it.

Competitive fishing, that's right up there with competitive vaping.

They are amongst guys who fish, I bet most of then could guess the weight within a pound, you could hear it in the crowd that something wasn't right.

First place $100,000. and those two have won over $300,000 plus sponsorship money recently as a team. The Seriousness of the money equates to the seriousness of the crime

If you cheat to take home a 5 or 6 digit prize or win boats or whatever, then it seems like it could be argued as theft or at least fraud. But I doubt that you'd be prosecuted for fraud in a competition. If so, Lance A would be in a world of trouble.

+1

I had an echo cardiogram two months ago to determine my ejection fraction which is how well the heart is pumping. Solid half hour of measurements using fancy ultrasound machines.

The tech said "I've been doing this 30 years, I can tell within a percentage point in ten seconds with no electronic measurements."

One of my good friends used to fish in tournaments. He had a very nice truck and his fishing partner had the fishing boat. They had over to 250 grand in the truck, and boat and fishing equipment, just to be sorta competitive. He won a few thousand dollars over the years. Not even a fraction of his investment, but it was all done for fun at his level.

Kinda like a lot of guys on this board, with 250K or much more to go to the track and have fun and at best win a bottle of Champaign and a trophy.

The fishing tournaments top earners are making real money. To compare that to competitive vaping is very ignorant.

Well, look at the size of the crowd watching them vape. I wonder how much they have tied up in those vape pens.

This is a thread with "fat guys in spandex" in the title. I suppose I under estimated the seriousness here.

I laugh at the fat guys comment. You need to be in good shape to stand in a boat fishing hard for days on end. The pros are a cut above x 10 to the average tournament fisherman.
I've done a few pro am tournaments as an am.

I think the point is less about how competitive it is or how much money is at stake, but is more about how "fishing" is competitive since there's a huge amount of luck involved. Yes, there is probably skill to picking a spot, luring the fish, hooking and land the fish. But if your fish is "the big one" or not is presumably, mostly down to luck.

I hate to fish, watch fishing, think about fishing.

My son is exactly the opposite...thank goodness a guy up the river from me would take Jack out on his boat to fish. I'd of eaten the lead weights if I had to go.

That said, I worked with a female LCDR in the 2000 time frame who's husband was a pro on the Bass Pro circuit, if that is even the right term.

I didn't even know that was a thing...he did VERY well.
