Oh man, why is spending so hard?

Some of you may have read a thread wherein I talk about getting off of two wheels and onto three. I've been shopping for an FLRT HD trike and the used market is nearly as much as new. I went to my local dealer and found this siren calling out to me:

Yes it's new, no it doesn't require my usual mods since it has linked brakes, but it's $30K before all of the fees and insurance and etc. Sigh, talk me into it guys bearing in mind I'm one of the indigents on this site....no Porsche money in my pockets.

Seems like just an insane purchase to me...all of the dangers of a motorcycle without the fun?

I saw this guy on the freeway the other day, can't imagine how much it cost him to build this trike and can't imagine how uncomfortable it would be to travel on. Out in the elements, (heat/cold/rain/snow), with no ability to go around cars or lane-split, (admittedly only a CA thing but a HUGE reason I ride). I don't get it(?)

30K.

thats nice 996 money, cheap 997 money. or 2 or 3 seasons of wheel to wheel.

dear god no.

stevej37 10-11-2022 11:26 AM

That's what I paid for my 2022 Civic SI.

I am not a HD fan, so sort of biased. What about something like a Can-Am Ryker?

$30,000?
Can it do wheelies?
Maybe then. lol

Love the tiller steering. (Maybe it's got rear-wheel steering brakes like dune buggies use that I just can't see, to augment that front end mess?)

Scary stuff, that thing is.

My physical disability is making it much harder to do trips on my Ducati. I dumped it in NC this past June so I'm looking for something that will enable me to do the long trips that I enjoy.

Good for you.

I see a lot of three wheels around here.

I don’t think I’d do all the bling on the bike you pictured, but take your time, you’ll find the right ride.

Your journey.

flatbutt, ask your self how you will feel about it 10 minutes from now?
How about 10 months from now?
How about 10 years from now?

Rusty Heap 10-11-2022 12:07 PM

$30K is just a number!

Buy it today, enjoy it for several years, then sell it off for darn near what you'll have into it, but with smiles and memories.

A price is just a price, the rest is emotion.

Time, Money, Priorities.

Consider a sidecar rig. At least you could retain some dignity. You could buy a nice Ural for about half and have a very cool, unique bike with far more storage capacity.

You clearly haven’t.

FB, I am sorry but the level of dickhead in this thread angers me.

Again, my bad.

No idea what you’re upset about. How about a sense of humor? Sheesh. You know better.

I do.

Last comment from me on FB’s thread: FB is the best of us and we have lost some of his equals, unfortunately over the past years.

Past few months. I get a lot of PMs.

Hit me the wrong way, fellas, and I will not apologize to anyone other than FB.

What is your limit money-wise?

My tolerance for non-essential (meaning day to day) vehicles is one and only one at a time and much less than 30K.

But, to quote Ms Crow: “If it makes you happy.”

Flatbutt I have a friend of mine that wants to sell his Harley trike . I know nothing about it but if you PM me your number I will ask him to call you . It is in Georgia but shipping is no big deal . He ships Porsche cars for the shop .

This is quite over the limit, but it wouldn't leave me impoverished. Other things would need to be set aside for a while...quite a while.

I'm not comfortable with that kind of money for a trike but if we ever get a chance to sit down with some tapas and wine, you'll get an idea as to why being able to travel on my own with the wind in my face is very important to me.

Frankly. I'm reacting to my children's fear over me chasing the horizon on my Ducati. A fear that is not unreasonable but as their late Mama once said " T, I love you but get another motorcycle and ride before I kill you".

I just gotta ride.
