My Man.

My Dad was able to ride until he got cancer at 84. The last thing he wanted to give up was his Harley. He just had to ride.

My hat is off to all you folks that see and feel that.

I'm not comfortable with that kind of money for a trike but if we ever get a chance to sit down with some tapas and wine, you'll get an idea as to why being able to travel on my own with the wind in my face is very important to me.

Frankly. I'm reacting to my children's fear over me chasing the horizon on my Ducati. A fear that is not unreasonable but as their late Mama once said " T, I love you but get another motorcycle and ride before I kill you".

I just gotta ride.

I doubt if anyone on this board has gained more respect and has more dignity than Flatbutt, but guys can be brutle with their barbs and needling with no malice intended when amongst friends... it's who we are.

That was my take... since everyone asked me what I thought.

Good luck with your search FB .... buy a pink one :D

I agree! I didn’t read any malice either.
Let’s face it, that vehicle is an easy and irresistible target to many guys.
I’ll admit to having to draw on my momma’s “if you can’t say anything nice” admonishment when I clicked on this thread and that pic popped up. :)

I'm now sorry if my comments were insensitive, I just don't get the HD trike thing but then, I don't have to...it's not for me but for people who want one. That line on a used one might be a real treasure, they sure are expensive new! Best of luck with it. :)

Sidecar rigs are hard to ride due to the uneven cornering -like a bike in one direction, like a trike in the other.

I get the "dump" thing. I've got issues as well (as FB and I have discussed) and my biggest motorcycling hangup is simple low speed dumps to to strength stuff.

"Oh man, why is spending so hard?"

You prob have some Dutch in your blood...lol
As I do.

I am a Harley guy, and a Ducati guy, and was a BMW guy and still have a Porsche as well as a slow as hell air cooled VW. So I say go for it, you only live once. If you have to save up for a bit, so be it. For the record my CVO Road Glide was a little more than that and I have not regretted that purchase a single time. I am reminded of my why i saved and bought it every time I take it out.

I bet you would ride the wheels off of that and enjoy all of it. If it is safer for you and makes you happy, who gives a crap what a bunch of dickheads on the internet think. The fear of dumping it is gone, and you are still riding. Like Denis said, is it for me, no but I am only 48 so still have years of staying on two wheels ahead of me.

I also know a guy with a big Electra Glide who is getting older and considering a trike. Him and I have done 700 mile days together, so he is no bar hopper. He has to ride, just like you FB and I am supporting him as well as he is struggling with the same thing you are.

I say do it.

Flatty- if you like Harley trikes, I'm sure you could find a nice used one for half as much money or less.

Didn't Can-Ams used to come with BMW boxer engines? I know you're a former boxer boy. I'm shocked how cheap they start out now.

I say find one you are comfortable spending the $ on and go for it

But, have you ever considered a new 3 wheel Morgan? Looks like they are coming to USA next year. Comfy and plenty of wind in your face. As an ex motorcyclist, I would love one

P.s. ouch, I just saw the price of the new Morgan. Never mind

They seem to hold their value if that is a concern.

I wonder..are the old Harley cop trikes still available?

Would respectfully disagree Greg. I owned and rode a Ural for some time. Turning either direction is not like a 2 wheel bike at all. No leaning possible or required. Turning left, the sidecar is planted firmly to the ground. Go as fast as you want. Turning right it’s the exact same maneuver with a measure of common sense to not pull the side car wheel off the ground. Although “flying the car” can be quite fun with experience. Until then, many will put ballast in the sidecar. A bag or two of pea gravel works well. I found it unnecessary after a few rides.

I didn’t find it hard to ride at all...in fact, would likely get another when father-time dictates. Everyone’s tastes are different, but if you’ve never ridden one, FB you owe it to yourself to consider it...for the cool factor alone. Although stops at the gas pumps require extra time to chat with onlookers.

I have indeed but again my particular handicap makes a sidecar rig very tiring for me. The few times I've ridden one I found myself "working" against the hack as it seems to want to pull to the right constantly. I've been told that the steering should be neutral but "should be" isn't something I want to deal with. Too bad because a hack would be awesome.

That is what I paid for my cherry 930...

(which was sold to another Pelican)

FB,

If you lived closer I would drive you down there to pick it up!

It will allow you your freedom and ability to enjoy yourself, so buy one and if this one isn’t to your liking find another, otherwise it’s just money and none of us are guaranteed tomorrow.

Best,
Rutager
