Anyone remember what this is?

Might be easy to some.
I remember using it a lot.

Nope...but at the age I used it, that would have been perfect.

Garage
Mine was a bit different, and although the results were similar, it took longer!

^^^ Is the left end the bottom...or the other way?
I haven't seen that type.

It looks too small in circumference.

^^^ Yes Sir.
If I remember...it would hold about 12 records and drop one at a time when ready.
Initially made for players with a spindle for 78 rpm's (or later 33's)
The one in your pic looks to be a single holder instead of 12

The one in post #4 is foreign to me.

The small tab in the second section (in post 1) held the 45's and dropped one at a time.
A simple, but brilliant idea to update the old 78 rpm players.

I used the adaptors Steve posted the pic of. I've still got a stack of 45's sitting around here...and a turntable that works.

Our adaptor (when I was a kid) said RCA/Victor on the top of it.

Hell no, I cued up 1 at a time. I can still hear the scraping sound when a disk hits the spinning disk below.....

I can't remember how the price compared between 45's and 33's....but if a person wanted a copy of a hit song, it was the way to go. Plus the flip side might have a 'soon to be' hit.

I can't say for sure, but I think they were around $3 apiece. (maybe less)

^^^
I just now googled that question.

"Depends on when you are talking about. The price changed regularly. In the beginning about 59 cents and by the 80's they were like a $1.98 if I remember correctly. I remember them being 69 cents and 79 cents through the 1960's. Many chain stores that had record departments would punch a hole through the record in the label if that particular record didn't sell within a reasonable time frame or was off the charts and wasn't selling anymore. You could buy those for 10 cents a piece. They were usually in a large bin all jumbled together like you see discount DVD's now."

I'd never had more than one record loaded on at a time, at least not in 45. Yes, I used the little plastic disks to adapt the center to a 33 turntable.

When I was 3-4 yo, dad had a stereo with record player and reel-to-reel. The next thing that I remember was being ~8 and him buying a new stereo w record player and cassette deck. I remember buying records, but 33 and 45, and then recording them onto cassette until I was about 13. I also recorded off of the radio.

When I was about 14, I used paper delivery and lawn mowing money to buy a stereo with dual, auto-reverse cassette deck and a CD player.

I have my Mom's first stereo that my Grandparents bought her back in the late 50s. It has a badge on it that says "Zenith High Fidelity" in the center. It is basically like a big portable record player with the turntable saying "Cobra Matic" on it and the tone arm looks like a snake. It has removable speakers and sits on a metal stand that has a storage area for records. It has one of those round inserts for playing multiple 45s.

^^^ If the changer works to play a stack of records and all else is working...it's probably worth some money. There are online sites that will give you an offer...if you wanted to part with it.

If it was mine....I would keep it.
