I don't have any intention of selling my '69 911. It's devolved into one of those long term projects and sets in the garage. I'll probably kick the bucket without ever driving it again. I do love to look at it & consider it a piece of art.

Always liked 911 as far back as jr hi school or old enough to know about them. It was a dreams then like many but bought my first couple years I bought my house. Always had one in the garage since. Fast forward 20 years later, I kept buying them only because they are just too much fun. I love my old air cool cars, still have three but the wassar pum=pars are just great cars to drive around without having to break out a sweat. I daily a Cayman S. Have 996 turbo in shop gettin' gone through.

Getting older so the though of selling them off have cross my mind. Then what the heck am I going to drive and act like a hooligan?

Had 20+ great years with a couple old air cooled Porsches.
Today old race cars and vintage racing interest me.
Compared to Porsche HP, V8 HP makes racing affordable.

Are you still partial to Porsches?

27 years of owning my 911, I still just love it. I glance at it, I will smile. If I drive it it or wash it and feel and touch it I just get happy. I smell it and I simply can’t imagine not having it in my garage safe and sound if I am not on the road or the track sliding around getting rid of unstrung weight of tire tread and brake pads. My face with a stupid grin ear to ear and my love of the it all getting deeper.

186,000 miles, 41 states and Canada on to my goal of 48 states driven in my 911.

Sold my SC and kind of miss it. You guys can be pretty entertaining at times so I hang around.

I had four Porsches, miss my 911S Targa most of all. The 996 and Cayman I had were great cars, but had no soul. My 911 had panache, style and class and none of the nanny b.s. modern cars have. Everyone knows what a 911 is. A Cayman, meh, people thought it was a Toyota Supra at first glance. Sold that car and bought an Audi TT S line coupe. Great car, better fit and finish than the Cayman or 996. At least I kept it in the VAG family. Still have a soft spot for the air cooled 911’s though, probably always will.

As a "car guy," I like all sorts of them. But I'll always be a Porschephile. I think I'll always have the 930. Have something you love for long enough, and after awhile, it just becomes a part of you. Or me, in this case. I still smile every time I drive it. I still love looking at it.

Absolutely enamored. I don't see that ever changing. I was introduced by riding with an uncle when I spent summers in Germany with Oma and Opa in the '60's and '70's. I always thought it was an unobtainable dream for me, just something to lust after. When I found myself in a position to actually pursue that dream some twenty-odd years ago, I didn't hesitate. I still pinch myself, unable to believe its "real".

My two sons followed me into the hobby. What a blessing this has been for us - these cars served as a catalyst to bring us closer than I think most fathers and sons have the privilege of being. Beyond the relationship I was able to build with my sons through this shared interest, I am proud of our club, a club we have helped build, and one through which we have built lasting, life long friendships.

Beyond that, I'm just too damn old to "switch horses mid stream". We (my sons and I) know these cars like the backs of our hands. We are very, very comfortable around them, and can perform any task required to keep them on the road. There is a lot of satisfaction in that, and a good deal of confidence that we can drive them anywhere, anytime, and deal with anything that pops up. They are very much "our" cars. We all own other cars, of course, but if push ever comes to shove, these are the last cars we will ever give up. Like an old slipper, they just "fit".

My first foray into Pelican was LONG ago when I had a BMW 325IS. I thought the Porsche guys were absolute lunatics. I bought that car around 2001 or so.

I bought my first Porsche, a 1980 911SC about 2008? Then a 1978 930 some years later.

Both sold now.

Have a 2001 Boxster S that is in the garage.

While not as sexy as a 930, it is the most pleasing of all three.

Yes. I’m a fan.

It occurs to me when I am dead that people will think I was a Porsche Fan Boy. While I am a fan, I am a fan of fun things. Porsche is just very good at making smile inducing autos.

I have virtually no interest in the current Porsche line....they are all too big, too complex and too heavy. My love of the 911 was centred on a small, light car with good power and which emphasized driver feedback, nimbleness and simplicity.

So, while I wish Porsche continued existence, it is mainly for the selfish reason that I want them to continue to provide the parts I need to keep my air cooled car going.

As for their move to electric, well, I want zero part in that mainly as it violates all my aforementioned desires with the added liability of labelling me as some sort of nut who thinks CO2 is an issue to our planet.

I’m definitely still a big time enthusiast. Having recently sold my early turbo (it leaves tomorrow), I still have my 911 track car and my 930 Slantnose. I drove the 911 a lot this past summer after it sat in my shop for quite a few years. I’d like to restore it to its former glory this winter (fix all of track battle scars). That car runs awesome and puts a big smile on my face. I even got a speeding ticket in it (first time in that car in almost 20 years of ownership).

I’ve bought 3 cayennes over the summer and really like these. My wife is driving a Turbo and I’m driving a Turbo S. I’m torn between selling the cayenne S or putting a lift kit and using it as a farm truck. These are no air cooled 911 but have the Porsche spirit, have AC, and are comfortable to drive.

My kids both love the 911s. I doubt I will ever sell either.

I still love them ! I have not owned anything newer than '87. In fact that is the only one I have left. I do, however have my eye on a 944 I might pick up, if the price is right. I do miss my 911.

the last car that truly uses this formula, and will likely go down as one of the best ICE cars of all time ... is the ND2.

Still have the '69, '84 and '59. Won't sell them unless in a trade for similar Porsches.

As for newer cars for (boring)DD duty, it is hard to like the modern 911s, that are noisier and more expensive than most current GTs. A used AMG GTs is about 40K less than a 911 around here...

rfuerst911sc 10-20-2022 06:27 AM

My Boxster S weighs 2855 and the 996 C4 3032 . Still light enough to be tossible and have some raw feel to them . But modern enough for comfort and safety . Doors still close like a bank vault . And with the FSI engines both have excellent performance across all measureable statistics .

GH85Carrera 10-20-2022 06:43 AM

Drove my wife and I to Arkansas for a meeting with some of her friends and their husbands.

Driving the Macan on curvy roads and hilled is fun. Not quite the fun of my old 911, but a blast non the less. The “flappy paddle gearbox” is sure different, but the PDK is brilliant. The handling and brakes are great for a SUV. We come back in a few weeks with the 911 to get a real fix of fun and driving the perfect roads.

Some of the "new" Porsches are simply amazing in both form and function.

My passion began when I was still in grade school in the 60's.

Dad loved the air-cooled German machines and after several variations of VW, he finally brought home our first Porsche.

I've been in love ever since and will continue to be until the big guy calls my number.

I have the 356 here at my house, the 914 at my Mom's, and the SC is at Ivan's waiting for an engine rebuild.

How it all started......

I've owned 13 P-cars over 30 years (mostly used and fixer uppers, and not all at once, don't get the wrong idea). Friends and relationships know me as the Porsche guy ;-) And yet I have to confess I'm losing interest as it becomes a lifestyle brand for the rich and famous. Maybe it always was and I missed the memo.

The cars used to be odd, rare and hard to drive cars for enthusiasts, and somewhat affordable used... Now the company is on instagram and probably Tiktok (I would not know), they've done a great job selling their aircooled heritage, and there are auction sites dedicated to the brand. The dealers are only selling Speedsters or GT3 touring to celebrities or millionaires who purchased a Carrera GT or 10 cars at the dealer. I hate to say it but it's starting to smell like "Ferrari".

I owned a few from 356A to a 991 - all were lovely cars and fun to wrench on. It kinda bugs me however that something like a Touring (my modern dream car) is selling $100K over its considerable MSRP now, and even used ones are out of reach of real people with jobs and kids in college. Not unachievable, (you can live in your car, not drive your house) but unreasonable and above my pleasure/cost curve. The base cars are alright but geared so tall as to be unusable for fun on backroads anymore. Porsche does not listen, been that way for years - have fun till second gear and game over - guess they think the autobahn extends all over the world.

The used market is similarly bonkers (not entirely Porsche's fault - sure I'd like another 356 or hell another early 912 SWB, but will I pay $100K+ for a decent 356 with a 75 hp Flat 4 engine? probably not anymore).

I'm turning my attention to BMW these days, yes, they produce some turds with huge nostrils lately, yes old E30 M3s are pricy as well, but a nice classic 2002 (non tii) is still "affordable" and IMO just as fun as a later 356 or early 911 (I've had both, trust me a tiny bit), and a slightly used previous gen M2 seems like the new sweet spot for the enthusiast that needs reliable transportation with power, backseats and not something the size of a panamera tour bus. So that's where I'm at. Shifting allegiances.. then there's this madman Sreten, https://www.youtube.com/c/M539Restorations/videos, who will make you want to dismantle BMW V12s all day (great way to waste a month on youtube, I recommend it)

I'll keep my 911T for now - but I doubt I'm getting another P-car ever again.
