There was a TV series called Auto/Biography that had an episode about a buried Dino.

I saw that series. They seemed to run out of material pretty quickly.

Lots of cars buried. We found an old MG once. Looked at property that was once a junkyard, luckily we did a ground penetrating radar. Prior owner had buried old car parts and Citroens.

Gas pipeline blast in Edison NJ, 1994, was backhoe damage from a guy burying a truck to collect insurance.

Insurance fraud is a good way to end up in jail. Back in the 70s I new someone that built a house on property that had a low spot and he must have buried 20 cars there. All legal, just spread the word that it was needed. I guess back then selling scrap iron was not that common.

We built a neighborhood in an area that was owned by a family for years. One day I told a labor to remove a wheel on a hillside. A couple hours later, he came back to tell me it was attached to a car. We left it.

Up until the early 70’s, it was pretty normal to use a buried old car as a septic system. You would basically run the septic line out into the buried can and then the effluent would percolate up (or down) from there. Bigger facilities might have gotten something bigger like a school bus.

Then septic tanks an leach fields came into play.

I think it's funny that this car was buried at an estate in Atherton.
Funny because these are multi million dollar homes.
If you can afford the house you can afford a nice car.
Atherton has been known at times to be the most expensive real estate in the country.

Evidently the owner of the house before the current owner was suspected in insurance fraud. He reported that car stolen, and just burred it in his back yard and took the money.

He had a yacht that sank and he claimed insurance money. So he was just a fraudster. I think they said he is dead now, so he sorta got away with it.

He must have had a blown engine or transmission and saw an expensive repair and decided to just bury it and take the insurance money. If it was a good car, he would have sold it and not needed the insurance fraud.

No doubt the current owners of the house are hating this entire event.

Interesting story.
Yeah funny this is a crime scene with an investigation.
While the other buried car stories seem to be just the culture of the area and less nefarious.

It would suck to have your yard destroyed like this. Pretty sure the police department is not going to fix it back nice.
