towed the line
May need to load my trailer with an auto trans rig for a couple hundred mile tug soon. was wondering if like a manual you should go neutral, no parking brake letting the straps do the work?

I wouldn't have thought of that... Just drive it onto the ramp, put it in park and pull on the hand brake.
- The tie downs are important but you don't want them doing 100% of the work.

Not sure of what the question is....but isn't it supposed to be 'toed the line'?

Not sure why it's the title as he is towing a trailer and a "rig" is on the trailer. No towing no line no where. ![]()

Yeah....the only time I've towed a line is when the tow rope broke.

It's not legal in Ohio tow with a strap. I suspect that would be pretty much universal given the risk.

But I also toe the line as best I can.
I have bunions on both big toe joints...so it's difficult to get it real close.

I can see downside to keeping it in gear as per afterburn's thoughts but not so with e-brake. Just talking and not from a specific knowledge base.

On an automatic I would hit the parking brake hard but put it in neutral. If you put it in park the car doesn't have to jiggle back and forth much to shear off the parking pawl.
I have a friend who buys all kinds of old rusty stuff. If he gets an old tractor with a locked up engine he puts a bunch of kerosene in the cylinders and puts in on his trailer, in gear, tied down loosely. All the rocking back and forth usually frees the engine up.
