Woud you build your own pillow?

My guess is someone already thought of this but in my quest for the perfect (for me) pillow, I would want to customize the filling making a pillow a kit. You could buy different and new fillings (have some ideas on those) either until you got it right or to revitalize your pillow after 3-6 months. I'm just not sure anyone would go to the trouble except with a little trial and error, you could create a perfect customized pillow for you.

I did that once when I was having problems with my neck. I half-filled a pillowcase with ground walnut shells. It conformed to my neck easily and worked well for the length of my rehab. So, I'd say it can be done.

Just sew a zipper into the pillow and you can change fillings as desired.

I’ve done it a few times… I like a feather pillow but not one that is too full. Issue is, feathers break down after time and they become too flat. My solution, buy a new feather pillow pull out part of the feathers and add them later as the ones inside breakdown.

What I really want to be able to is customize pillow filling with a variety of different foams and feathers and such.

The idea was too good not to have been done already. There are a bunch of these type of sites: https://plutopillow.com/?msclkid=3848726279aa16ad86ac1103060ebcc0&utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Search_General&utm_term=build%20a%20pillow&utm_content=_Pillow%20Phrase No affiliation. I am actually now pondering this. Thanks! Last edited by Seahawk; 11-01-2022 at 12:24 PM.. | ||

You spend $200 for a freaking pillow multiple times a year? Now I understand why paying a $500 bet was so difficult. Walmart has all types of pillows for $5-$10. Pretty sure that is where my wife has gotten them in the past. Am guessing I go a couple years on the same pillow. Never give it a thought. The words "high maintenance" come to mind.

I've tried lots of pillows in the past from cheap to expensive. Many years ago, my wife got a super nice down pillow for $300. I didn't like it. She loved hers, and we took mine back. I am only comfortable on a latex foam pillow. I even stayed at my parents once and was super comfortable on the pillow on their guest bed, but when I took it home, it didn't work for me. I assume maybe since I sleep on my side, the pillow and bed have to work together.

I just find it kind of funny... I have slept on a floor, an army bunk, the ground, a cot, an air mattress, a waterbed, couches, foldout beds, hotel beds, a hammock, recliners etc and never thought twice about it let alone thinking I needed a special pillow to sleep. | ||

^^^ foldout beds are the very worst. Sleeping on the ground (which I have done many times) makes me wish I had brought a pillow. Wadded up clothing fills the need.

Injuries, surgeries, arthritis, etc, catches up with you. We did the My Pillow route and they are very good, at least for me. All different sizes. I am also willing to pay for a more custom set up. We'll see. For hotels, when I travel I have a huge roller in camo that I pack two pillows in. I have found over the years that the detergents they use for hotel linens irritates my eyes. Bringing in my own pillows helps immensely.

As a side sleeper, I want a lot of soft volume to sink into with a medium core for support. And I want to be able to customize that core as well as make sure the volume stays where it should which I've worked out how to do.

Ahh, the sobakawa pillow. Those are great, but if overstuffed, it is really firm.

Spent most of my life not caring about a what kind of pillow I had. I've always really liked to have something under my head, and the times I didn't have a pillow one my boots or some rolled up clothes sufficed. Now, I'm a lot more picky. I'd like the option of building my own pillow. Great idea.
