Then to complicate things, as the former owner of a car some consider desirable, I'd like to add that the driving experience isn't worth the hassles involved.

Fint is exaggerating and BAT is a terrible place to shop for projects. Friend of mine just found a one owner 70T project for 30k. Other than tired paint and tired original interior, looks extremely solid. Nothing like a BHCC flip.
They are still out there for the hungry. I’m assuming the posted budget is to get into a “nice” car. No way that a nut and bolt is going to come in within that price range.

There’s a local to me 69 912 project listed for 29k. Car is completely apart and I haven’t seen it except in a couple of pics before disassembly. Been listed fo awhile. Could probably get him down to 25.
The 912 is a good idea. Cheaper to get into initially. 90% 911 and the engine rebuild is cheaper to do.
