Hurricanes are often accompanied by tornadoes. Hilton Head Island was hit by cat 2 Matthew in 2016 and it hit at high tide. Evacuated for a week but clean up took months. In the first 8 days Crowder Gulf removed enough debris to cover a single lane of highway 13 feet high for 16 miles! Estimated 1,521,481 CYs total. Lots of property damage too.

Thank dog we're not in the epicenterofhell that parts of CA are lately, but here in the NM mountains we've evacuated twice, typically May/June before the monsoons - and it really helps one focus on what's "important" and what's "crap".

And yet we still have acres of "de-crapifying" to do.

Papers, pets and a few important things in our case. My (ever type-A anal retentive) parents have a stack of folders in the office with all of the important information - in their case it's end-of-life stuff but it is a reminder that we should have the same for when we have to GTFO in the face of a fire.
