There should be no blind spot.
That's where your peripheral comes in when you glance at your side view mirror. |

My business partner broke up with one girlfriend he dated over left lane driving. As soon as she got on the highway, she went to the left lane, and stayed there at 5MP over the limit. She refused to move over. She said no one needs to go faster than her. She alone of all the drivers knew the perfect speed everyone should drive.
I have driven many remote interstates. One more than a few occasions I will be drive along in the right lane and far off in the distance ahead see a car alone on the road, in the left lane. It takes a long time, but I catch them, and just roll past in the right lane and eventually see them disappear in the distance behind me and they never moved out of the left lane. In Oklahoma one can actually get a ticket for left lane impeding. I would love to know how often it happens. We have some sections of the turnpikes that have a 80 MPH limit, and 60 MPH minimum speed. As a man that had to suffer the horrors of the national 55 MPH limit it is somehow super satisfying to roll past a trooper going 80 MPH and my radar detector is on full alert, and know I will not get pulled over. |

When I went down to Key West, I noticed pretty much all the drivers get in the left lane and never move. They will run 90 MPH bumper to bumper. One section of their turnpike had ne one at all in the right lane, everyone was in the left lane. It was bizarre. I saw a line of oversized SUVs and minivans hauling buns at 90 roll past a state trooper running radar, and he just sat there. I assumed the speed limit was 90. As someone that grew up in the south of the USA I guess I always thought of New York as NYC. Of course that is not remotely close to reality. Some of the most open and empty interstate highways I have ever seen were in upstate NY. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1668714620.JPG Arizona has pretty scenery, and open roads. |

All too much work for me. I'm typically assessing who's doing what where - the rhythm of the cars- and my path thru cloggage. Taking time to focus on schooling those riding behind the wheel?... nah. |

the old days of disciplined germans are LOOOONG gone the left lane hogging is a thing there as well. 2 or 3 lane autobahn, right lane has trucks Nobody wants to be near big scary trucks doign 90kph so the slow pokes drive 110 in the middle oh wait, now a truck has his blinker on to overtake another truck doing 89.5 slow poke brakes and lets truck over take in front of him NOW the slow poke is frustrated for being held up by a slow truck out goes his blinker to over take the truck But , he has no speed! Oh wait, another slow poke in the left lane, doing 120 comes along sees the slowe pokes blinker BRAKES to let the slow poke overtake the truck Now , everybody is on the left lane, behind a slow poke doing 110kph All chicken and brake riding, leaving huge gaps letting more slow pokes in frome the middle lane till everybody and their grandmother is on the left lane, and the middle lane is free and clear for a mile They see somebody brake ahead, ooh brake lights, despite having 50 meter, they brake as well Behind me, that never happens, why? I do not brake , I decel on engin or coast.. no brake lights = no panic and brake riding behind me !! Obviously i'm the Ahole that then does his http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1668719878.jpg Zen ze flashing lights happen I ignore Gun it, and woop ti do.. The lead Slow pokes don't see the problem with Traffic jams. They look ahead.. there is no traffic in front of them,"what a lovely day for a drive" Oddly enough, there never is any traffic jam behind me Because i'm not a slow poke I don't ride my brakes. |

A reminder that none of us know what the other person may be going through. One of the hardest virtues I struggle with is patience. Especially on the highways. It's an ongoing battle and I am always looking for reminders of why it's so important, which you provided here. Thanks again, my brother! SmileWavy |
I back into my parking spot all the time. It's waaay safer.
Btw, that's the second time in about a month I heard someone hating on parking that way. The other person said its "attention getters"...wait, didn't that guy say the same thing in this thread? Why would you choose to drive in reverse in a setting where things have changed since you parked? Pulling straight forward is smarter, easier and faster. I'll take a little longer parking if it means I'm more safe when I leave. But hey, you do you. Did I mention that essentially nobody has Advanced Driver training, but they're the ones barking loudest about bad drivers? |

Go to an oil town like Midland TX. You back in everywhere because if some poo is about to hit the fan and everyone needs to GTFO cause something that you don't want going boom is about to go boom it's faster and safer. |
I usually back into parking spaces .... but have never backed into my garage and almost never into a driveway ....
Now y'all have really screwed wif my head :D |
I lived in Big Spring for 4 years. Worked at the VA Med Ctr.
Midland was "the city". Loved Texas. Work would send me to San Angelo a few times a year. I found Pelican in '99. I lurked until '02. Wish I was a little earlier and could've finagled a meet with Warren. |
I’m back in my F150 into every parking spot. For some unknown reason, it’s easier to back in, than to back out. And the rearview camera makes it a snap.
|
Funny, I back my truck into every parking space and pull my cars straight in. Why? not really sure but it's what I do
