My Car Insurance Keeps Going Up

I have been with State Farm for about 15-20 years. Homes, multiple vehicles and an umbrella. I've never had a claim other than windshields (which is part of my comp).

I renew my vehicles every six months. My daily 2019 VW Alltrack has seen increases on the premium for the last two renewals with zero claims on the car. When asked they say everybody is raising premiums. I live in the Denver area, BTW.

For my entire driving life I've always had premiums go down as the vehicle ages. What are you guys/gals experiencing?

Everything is going up with the inflation at the current rate. Ask anyone that recently had a body shop do any work. They don't even want to schedule an appointment for the estimate for a few weeks out. The repair is going to take a lot longer.

One of my wife's friends was driving at 35 MPH and a buck slammed into her front fender and door. The dumb deer hit her Cadillac SUV . She called all the dealerships for Caddy and Chevy and not one had an opening for an estimate for nearly a month. She called all the major body shops and finally found one that worked her in. In the end it was 3 months before her car was fixed.

I went to my account on statefarm.com and went back two years. Every month was the same thru now. Excepting in Feb of this year when it jumped up because of the new Civic.

Plus, last year they paid $700 back for every vehicle insured through them.

Also, when I had my broken femur from a car hitting me, State Farm paid every penny plus bought me a new bike.

We have liberty mutual. The rep told us to come down and have a chat. We did and everything went down alot! Premiums automaticly raise all the time even though the cars get older. Somehow he reset everything and fixed it. Some cars went down less than half price! He said to get the best price you have to do it every 2 or 3 years. Well we havnt gone back in 5 or so years I dont know if there is even a rep to talk to anymore but thats my story.

Daily drivers. Geico.

No claims ever. Went down 7%.

I switched from progressive to geico back and forth when they jack the rates.

I honestly don't give a shiat who I use. I just hope that I never have to call them.

Brand or company loyalty is a thing from last century. I feel any big company will grab me from behind.

Small local insurance brokers can't compete with online pricing and cost.

Again I hope I never have to use them

A friend of mine hit a deer back in February - Car was still drivable (though I questioned if it should of been) - I started calling body shops for her and no one could look at it for at least a month. Finally one of the shops said if it is towed in they look at them right away. I asked if they wanted me to use anyone in particular and they said they didn't care.

They looked at it, totaled the car (2015 Honda Fit) - I was prepared to do battle on the value of the car... started collecting comparables.... The insurance company came back with a price that was more than she paid for the car originally by about $2000

Finding the replacement was fun though. She didn't want a payment so I figured used initially - Used cars are crazy unless you are looking at cars with more than 100K on the odometer all of them were with in a few thousand of new (with as much as 75K on the odometer) so we started looking new

everyone was taking huge markups on top of the sticker. Finally found a dealer that wasn't.... I have never paid sticker on a car before... we did this time and I felt like I accomplished something

I had AAA for many years. They were far less expensive than most. But it seemed like they price was now way up.

One of my business friends is an independent agent. He cut our house plus car insurance down by about 40% last year.

I sell the stuff. We are seeing rate increases. Inflation is a big driver. Enormous verdicts are another. Most of the increases are 3ish percent. But, there are cases of 30%...

Also, I am not writing about personal lines. I live in the commercial world.

I've never had my insurance go down unless I switched companies.

We've had USAA for over 30 years. When we added our daughter a few years ago Liberty Mutual was cheaper so we switched. USAA is such crap, I had to call in just to cancel, spent half hour on phone with them and they tried to price match. They couldn't and gave me the old, 'but you've been with us for 30 years'. Yeah, price match and I'll stay. Can't do it they replied. So I left.

Then about a year later Liberty raised our premium. No reason given, no claims made. They were not able to reduce it so back to crappy USAA I went.

USAA would still be great if it was still limited to commissioned officers like it was for decades and which was the reason for its founding. They added enlisted about 20 years ago and rates have gone up ever since.

Now USAA has all sorts of TV and other ads, but I'm sure those are free... And that Gronkowski guy, no idea who he is, but I suspect some American sports guy. I'm sure he is endorsing them on commercials for free...
Hells bells, they even sponsor Premier League football from England. Hmmm

You can always tell the long time USAA customers that have never made a claim from long time customers that have made claims or added teenage drivers. The former are very happy simply because all they have to do is send in money. The latter aren't happy because the level of service has taken a nose dive and rates continue to climb due to celebrity endorsement and a pool of insured that are higher risk than under the old business model.

If I had a day to spend finding a different company I would leave them. I won't even get started on that stupid earwig jingle they have.

One more USAA thing. About 2 years ago our son wrecked his car and we weren't going to have it fixed. I was just using our USAA towing policy to have it taken to my BIL's dealership for storage until the junkyard guys picked it up.

First, USAA couldn't get it through their thick skulls that I was in Virginia, where we lived at the time, and the car was in Texas where the kid was in college.

Then they lost the car. Yes lost it. I gave specific instructions and seems no one could follow them. 'But sir, that dealership doesn't have a body shop'. No kidding, I know that, just for storage. So the tow guys took it back to their yard. About 6 weeks later I get a notice that XXX hundreds of dollars were due for storage fees. USAA hadn't even followed up to see if car was towed to its designated location. Numerous calls for hours and demands to speak to a grown up. They finally got to the bottom of it and paid the fees. It was maddening.

We are with Geico after we got let go from State Farm. Ms Rocket had two accidents and our son totaled the car. Poor little Tiguan had it rough.

We end up saving quite a bit with Geico, but it’s all online and I’ve never spoken to anyone in five years.

Increases in car crimes in your city? Catalytic converter thefts, car thefts, car jackings? Inflation definitely. Crime increases also factor in. Nobody counts beans like insurance companies.

Well someone has to pay the insurance company back for all of the uninsured drivers getting into accidents.... I always looked forward to getting older so my rates would go down- no accidents or tickets for almost 50 years, yet my rates keep going up too. It's not right.

Interesting.

I just learned New Hampshire doesn't require car insurance.

I'm wondering how does work in practicality

Very very interesting

I've been with GEICO for over 40 years. They have always been high, IMHO, but have always given great service. I'm getting multi-car discount, safe driver discount, etc., with no claims in the last 10 years, yet my premiums just went up 25% this year.

Seriously thinking about price shopping.

Liberty Mutual customers for 20+ years. Moved to Vegas where they have marginal presence, service took a nosedive. Switched to AAA, premium was OK for 2 years. Auto insurance jacked up 25 percent. Looking at the breakdown of charges the increase is all uninsured motorists coverage. Boatoad of new in-migrants from other states who can't drive worth a crap and low wage service and construction workers who have other things to spend money on.

spoke with my agent about the significant rise in prices the last few years and he said this-

*distracted drivers with phones and screens in the dash as big as my TV.
*distracted drivers when they get in an accident they often never touch the brakes, or waaay too late resulting higher accident speeds.
*cars build with crumple zones, airbags and with the leaps in technology they are much, much more $$ to repair. or are totaled and fixed poorly on the cheap.

other things like theft, vandalism or catalytic converter theft which is out of control in some areas are a factor too, but not like the impact on what i mention above.
