What if you defrost it, then roast it, but the neighbor's dogs go to town on it?

^^^ a true Canadian classic right there. Stuart McClean at his finest.

We were fortunate to see him live at one of his Christmas shows in 2009 before he passed.

More than once have I shown up to the family estate (not really) a day before to be presented a rock hard turkey. As the elder grandchild somehow this became my problem.

"food safety" aside, I've given many a bird a warm water enema just so that we can eat.

I've never spatchcocked a turkey though that is my go-to for chickens. I bet, as long as you can break the sternum and get the back out, it'd get thawed pretty fast once opened up. I'm envisioning a (clean) cooler full of salty bathwater.

(and in no way was any of this endorsed by any public health organization or food safety regulator)

They have turkeys you can buy now that can go from the freezer right into the oven after only a 5 minute wait. I saw then (oven-ready they are called) last night at Walmart.

My bird in in the garage fridge right now defrosting....

I believe this is the preferred method of thawing. None of that "it takes 3-5 days" crap!

Yep...frozen turkey and boiling hot fat don't make for a good T-Day.

No turkey this year. Doing ribeye and tenderloin and scallops. With the traditional sides.

Nothing wrong with that!

I would have done something different but I know my 99 year old Mom will be happier with the more traditional turkey, so I gotta think of her!

I like turkey anyway so it's all good.

Yep, they are branded as Jennie-O turkeys here.
Leave them in their heavy plastic bags in the freezer until the day you want to eat them.
Freezer to oven...ready to eat. No defrosting needed.

The ex called Tuesday night asking if I knew where I could get a turkey. I went to Sam's and nada. Went to my local grocer and they had frozen ones. Told her it was kind of late to defrost so I ordered a cooked bird for her. Wednesday comes and she wants to go to Costco because she heard they were $0.59 lb. Went in the evening and they were $0.29 lb.
