Funny thing, I handed my kids a cassette in the case and asked them to open it. It took them a little bit to figure it out. [emoji23]

My first cassette player was just after they started offering them for car use.
It was a Craig unit that came with a large steel mounting plate so that the player hung below the dash.
The sound was so much better than the 8 track it replaced.

Absolutely. You can "buy" a movie from iTunes or Amazon and then download it and "they" can then make it where you can no longer play the movie that you bought.

That's why I have only bought-via-download a handful of movies over the years, and the other 99% I buy DVD/BD and then rip them. That way I own a hard copy.

Do you still watch DVDs?

We have a stupidly large sized DVD library. BlueRay n 4K. We do get our moneys worth out of the 4K/BR player. We have our regular defaults we always watch over n over.

Our Mel Brooks entire collection being at the top. 007 is a crowd pleasure as well.

Yes I still like watching movies on my plasma tv.... I'll take anyone's dvd collection off there hands.
Please don't toss them.... old movies are hard to find!
box them up, I'll pay the shipping.... Music cd's too

Many years ago I bought a couple DVD albums and transferred disks into them and tossed all the original plastic cases. Those albums are now in a box in storage, no idea why I still have them. I don't own any device to play them with. I recall having so many compatibility issues with various disks and players - was very frustrating. Amazon and Neflix streaming is all we use now.

I haven't watched a DVD for probably 10 years or more. My ex would not watch a movie twice so our (my) dvd's tended to get sold off in garage sales.

Yeah, a LOT of my old DVDs will force me to watch previews of stuff I could not care less about for 5 min... No FFWD or avoidance... so I find myself streaming / downloading instead a lot of times. Also found myself having to rebuy a zone free player for some non US stuff.. LOL, I was shocked they still existed !

^^^ I'll have to watch some of mine again...it's been quite a while.

Yes, streaming is very easy and great quality.

A friend of mine gave me the loan of his spare (spare!!!) OPPO BDP103D Blu Ray disc player. It is an eye opening experience on a 60" TV with a decent sound system. Pink Floyd never looked or sounded better.

Your DVD player does not have a fast forward function?

Never heard of such a thing.

Also, quite a few years ago I scooped up a BUNCH of classic surf movies on DVD that wouldn't play on anything other than a worldwide player. So I bought a small compact player just for those DVD's....and it worked great!

Rarely but wanted to revisit "Crime Story" series that was done in the early / mid 80's. It was soooo cool! It followed Miami Vice back in the day, done by the producer. So, I purchased the complete 2 seasons, used on Blu-ray. It was awesome!

If you rip them that's not an issue. You don't even rip that stuff.

But yeah, it's super annoying.

Some DVDs are encoded in a way that you can't fastforward or skip certain portions of the DVD. Usually it's the FBI warning, but sometimes it's also previews and some of the other crap on the DVD. Sometimes you can skip but not fastforward. Sometimes you can fastforward but not skip, and I think sometimes both are locked out.

HELP!

The wife just told me she wants Moonlighting for Christmas. She has the box set for seasons 1 & 2. Wants 3, 4, 5.

They were released shortly after the series aired, but have not been re-release, or stream anywhere, I guess due to music rights.

The box sets are available used on Amazon, $35 - $45 per season. People know what they have. I'll have to start searching thrift stores, I guess.

Now before you say I should just buy those, she's worth it, she is. But the fact is, she's had the set of the first 2 seasons for months now, and has only watched 3 or 4 episodes. She has most or all the seasons of 24, I think we got about 1/2 way through them. She has a ton of DVDs, got rid of a bunch of them, still has tons, doesn't watch any of them.

varmint 12-02-2022 04:35 PM

I vaguely remember that show turning to crap after season two.

But if your wife has to be happy, just buy off eBay.
