I "Swear the God" as my ex mother in law used to say, I have watched the Ali Foreman Rope a Dope finale more times than I can count.

This video gives a breakdown of the final flying of fists with slow-mo and stop action with articulate narrative. Video should start where the breakdown begins. If not, go to 4:15. Even Afterburn can appreciate this one.

Exactly. I’m not perfect by any means but I can honestly say that I’ve helped to raise two boys that are good humans. That I can hang my hat on. I think a lot of people on this forum can say the same. [emoji482]

These championship-level fighters are very different from those of us who were very good amateurs. The amount of power, speed, and ability to take damage is beyond comprehension. Working these fights and hearing their bones crack against flesh makes me realize they are on a completely different level. When I retire in about a year and a half from my full-time job, my goal is to be a UFC referee. Fun times!

For now, you'll see me in the corner or cage working as an athletic inspector.

I wish these fighters were compensated better for what they do.

That is so awesome, David. Color me envious as can be. Having any kind of an opportunity to get that "up close and personal" with the best of the best pro athletes is such a very rare occurrence. It sounds like you are living your dream. Congratulations!

And, yeah, pro athletes are on a whole different plane than us mere mortals. It's hard to appreciate from the grandstands, or from even just outside of the ring. While I've have never had the opportunity to be in a ring with this level of athlete, I did get a glimpse into this world on the soccer field.

I had the opportunity to play on the practice squad against our Seattle Sounders when I was 16-19 years old. At times it felt as though me and the rest of that squad were just extra orange cones for them to run their drills around. Just a whole different level.

I guess the best thing about these guys, beyond their willingness to help us mere mortals, is their ability to "throttle back" a bit. Still, they give us a glimpse... which is plenty for me...

Thanks Jeff! You're correct, and when I rolled with Max, I could tell that any any given moment if he cranked it up he would mash me lol. Its still a privilege to have the opportunity to train with these guys.

That begs the obvious question, Rod - now that you have had a chance to grapple with both a top male, and a top female athlete, would she even stand a snowball's chance against him? I think I know the answer...

Our friend Rawknee'sTurbo is much more a fan of your sport than myself (but other than that he seems alright... ;) ) , and he's had a lot to say about the male/tranny presence in female MMA. It just looks so grossly unfair to me. From what I've seen the "guys" just absolutely dominate the "real" girls. I hope that doesn't spell the end for the ladies in the end.

You would be correct again Jeff… The female fighters, as tough as they are, wouldn't stand a chance against their male UFC counterparts, even assuming no size difference.
