"Four Strong Winds" is one of the prettiest songs ever written.
RIP Ian.

Not sure if that recording was at the tavern in Longview or the community centre.
When I was doing a lot of road work in Southern Alberta, the tavern was one of the last places that had the small round tables with the terry cloth covers to absorb the draft beer that came in the old regulation draft glasses. I would stop in just to have a shot of the old time atmosphere and have a glass of draft. Ian would appear on occasion and play a set for the lucky people who happened to be there.

Interestingly, this was the song that first captured Neil Young's heart as a boy, and probably ignited that storied career. Great song.

I have four of Ian Tyson's songs in my gig list.
Someday Soon, Four Strong Winds, Long Long Time To Get Old and my favorite, Summer Wages. One of the best compliments I have received for my song writing was a comment that my song Call Of The Crow's Nest made them think it was one of Tyson's. Best Les

If Neil Young liked/grew from it...it has to be good.

It was a sad day to learn of his passing.
I saw him play at Knox United Church for a video recording and saw him on stage at Ranchmans with Corb Lund a couple times. I used to stop at his coffee shop in Longview, the Navajo Mug, from time to time. We stopped in there in May 2013 while doing the Pano photoshoot on my 76 930 and were sad to hear that Ian recently sold it.

Very sad news. Ian had a great voice, it had a little nasal quality to it that made him unique.
Billy - what great memories you must have. When I'm watching music videos on YouTube this one is at the top of my playlist: Skip to 45:30 if you're in a hurry

I was listening to Ian Tyson because of this thread and "Four Strong Winds." "Navajo Rug" definitely stood out as the best I heard other than Winds.

M.C. Horses is another great. For those that don’t know, Ian was a real deal cowboy living on his ranch near Longview, Alberta. This is in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains and true cattle country. I’ve seen him perform this live with Corb Lund and even after his voice was shot, it was magical. This video doesn’t do it justice.
