Have we discussed MUDWTR?

Have gotten to the point in my life where for various reasons I can't tolerate much caffeine anymore. Went from coffee (which I love) to black tea for a couple of years but now the black tea is tough to tolerate for me too. Mostly anxiety and crashing energy mixed with some GI upset.

My wife got some MUDWTR "coffee alternative". Seems to be made from mushrooms and stuff (not those mushrooms, at least I don't think so). Does have a small amount of caffeine.

Anyone try this stuff? Reviews online are mixed. Figured I'd give it a try but have not opened the box yet. I love the AM hot drink ritual. Herbal teas don't seem to do it for me.

I tried a beverage from Atomo, but it did not suit my taste, https://atomocoffee.com/. I wonder how they can call it coffee when there is none in the mix.

Have you tried Postum? I drank it when I was recovering from SCI and had to gradually work up to normal food and drink.

Had to google, found this. If I ever couldn't drink coffee, I'd have to move to a state where assisted suicide is legal and call this whole life thing off.

My daughter had me try something a lot like MUDWTR. The taste was a truth-in-advertising experience.

I'm a Folgers guy and a Chevron Station drinker on the road.

But I did go to a Circle K in Gilbert Az that had these cool touchscreen coffee dispensers. I was impressed.

I like Folgers drip coffee, black. I have never understood putting sugar or a sweetener and cream or some white powder to look like cream in coffee and add a bunch of calories. I prefer my iced tea with no sweeter in it. Sweet tea is gross. I have never even tried sweet coffee. Bleck.

I have two coffee cups in the mornings, and that is it per day. Once again, I don't understand coffee after dinner, but my parents did that all the time.

In the last few years I see "coffee shops" popping up all over the place. Just a different version of another Starbucks store. All designed to serve coffee to people driving their cars. Several new brands popping up, and all with long lines. Once again, it is just beyond my mental grasp as to why someone would pay 8 or 10 bucks for a cup of coffee, after waiting in line while idling in a car burning gas. I can make coffee at home for pennies per cup.

Lots of stuff in this world I don't understand.
Now get off my lawn I have some clouds to yell at.

You might look into some of the products that I have seen advertised involving cacao.

There was a line in The Big Bang Theory that Sheldon said to Penny when she was buying supplements at the store and I’m paraphrasing here, but it was something like “Those things won’t do you any good, unless you’re trying to make expensive urine.”

It’s amazing that “we” allow these companies to make outrageous claims about medical benefits of products. In grade school they taught us about snake oil salesmen and it seems like they are back and stronger than ever.

Ever go to a Naturopath? Great way to spend tons of money only to have it sit in the cupboard.

Maybe give green tea a try. It's supposed to have a modest amount of cafeine and lots of other health benefits, & would be a decent morning hot drink. I'm thinking of trying that route too, although I'm not generally a tea drinker.

I usually do a loose leaf Scottish or English blend once or twice a day and to make some tasty "extracts" I also bought some of their dried/unsweetened ginger root - it turns out that a few 1/4" - 3/8" chunks in the basket make for a good cuppa! As does a good curl of lemon rind.

https://www.uptontea.com/tisanes-and-herbals/ginger-organic-loose-leaf-herbal-tea/p/V00023/

I find green to often have an unpleasant character to it. I bet the ginger/or/lemon might make it work for me...

MUDWTR sounds very… organic.

What about decaf, if caffeine is the problem?

If mushrooms; just microdose.

Caffeine is very addictive and wouldn't hurt to taper.
I'm 18 months sober (Caffeine) and it feels great. Life is a little bit better without the need for things.

This sort of stuff, even if for real, is like 90% profit and 10% product.

I used to go to an acupunturist, after the treatment (lay down, needles inserted, doze off to New Age music, needles removed, wake up) I’d buy the apple-beet powder that is supposed to lower your blood pressure. I stopped going when I realized that I can take a nap for free on my couch, and stopped buying the $40 cans of powder when I realized that I can dehydrate and powder beets in my kitchen.

Gosh I sound - and think - like a curmudgeon.

You imply that such is a bad thing.

Sounds about as enticing as Decaf Instant "coffee"

It's not coffee and I am not really expecting it to be. Rather a different sort of "hot energy drink". We'll see I am going to try it this weekend. I didn't want to try it on a workday in case it gives me projectile diarrhea or something LOL.

I have tried decaf coffee. It's OK. For me it gives me all of the GERD with none of the energy. Decaf black tea is OK.

Tried it today. It tastes like Chai tea mixed with unsweetened dark chocolate plus cinnamon and black pepper on top. Not bad, but not outstanding. Verdict is still out for me will have to continue and see.
