Yet another collector car insurance thread
I've been with Hagerty for several years now. This year the premium is going up over 40%. I've never had a claim. I met with my regular State Farm agent and he is pulling a quote together and thinks he can save me over $600/year with better coverage. The catch is they basically have no parts coverage. I have one 914 partially stripped, a 3.2 core engine, 912 engine, the original engine for my 356 and many other parts in my shop. Some are valuable like the engines.
Has anyone found a good solution for this?

I have State Farm collectors car insurance on both of the 911's in my sig.
I'm only interested in enough to plate the cars and I drive them whenever there is no snow/salt on the roads. The six month prem is $26.41 for each car. The Prelude is going on the same coverage this summer.

Talk to American Collectors, they have parts coverage options.

I am not sure why so many members have had their premiums increase. I have had Hagerty for 5+ years and it has only increased when I had it increased for my muscle cars increase in value as the restoration has gotten further along.

I was on Hagerty for 20+ years, with 3 months off around 2012. 3 years ago, rates went up by 30%, I contacted a college buddy who is a VP at Chubb, my rate for exactly the same coverage was cut in half.
Their service has been phenomenal, even roadside assistance. Was recently rear ended and %*)(*_@&^*&*&#....oh never mind.....that person insured by hagerty, and the dispute has been going on for very nearly 2 months already. Chubb has offered me a check at our fair agreed value......but I'm holding out. I was rear ended, the in car video from the other driver clearly shows they were at fault.....I don't want this on my record. Period. So, the summary is, Chubb has been phenomenal thru this ordeal. Hagerty has been a mess. hagerty- (the whole office) was closed for 2 weeks from before Christmas until the week after New Years. This is not how to handle your collector car community.

So I sell commercial insurance. We can cover parts no problem in commercial. I am NOT a personal lines expert. I would ask if you can have the parts covered as personal property. Which, is exactly what they are. There may very well be an auto parts exclusion on the SF policy. No idea.
If so, call other carriers. I have a policy with a direct writer on a property I own. It has a feature (that I will not publish) that all my carriers exclude. This direct writer did not ask about said feature or exclude it. YMMV. I find the curious researcher can solve problems. Good luck! |
