Todays Scams

I got 2 packets of seeds from China in the mail today - totally unsolicited. The label had my correct address and phone number on it. This happened a couple of years ago, too. The interwebs say it is often due to something you ordered on Amazon, but our Amazon account is in my wife's name. I don't know how they got my information. It's kind of scary.

In other scam news, I bought a pound cake at Kroger's. It doesn't weight a pound. Should I sue?

We ordered some large thumb drives on Amazon. They send some really low end mono ear buds that I would never stick in my ear as they even smelled strange. I contacted the seller and they said that was what I ordered. I contacted my CC company, and got my money refunded.

I threw the ear buds in the trash.

I get a constant stream of spam for some pre approved credit card to a store like Kohls. I have never shopped at Kohls as I don't even know what they sell, and I don't care.

I get offers for approved business loans. Yea, right, I will send some internet email only company all my business information, and skip talking to my own bank to get a loan I don't want or need.

Receiving seeds in the mail is weird and creepy as hell.

Pound cake not a pound, LOL!

I think if you tried to sue, they would tell you to "pound ....cake".

6.49 for 10oz of Pound Cake? Not even Entemanns?

Well, I guess at least it's kosher.

Send those seeds to the local FDA EPA or Farm Bureau. They might be interested in what grows.

Actually, 4.99. Don't make it worse than it is!! I don't know what the big 6 is on the sticker.

In other news, they came to replace my electric meter this morning. The guy said the old one wasn't transmitting data. I think it's because the numbers on it didn't go high enough due to the increase in price, like in the '70s when they had to replace all the gas pumps because they were only designed for 2 digits.

A class action lawsuit is likely underway.

The random seed deliveries have been going on for some time and not just in the US.

Most likely what's referred to as a Brushing Scam.

https://www.bbb.org/article/news-releases/20509-amazon-brushing-scam-indicates-a-serious-problem-for-victims

My wife got hit a bunch of years back.

Not something to ignore.

It's a warning, shot across the bow.

(quite interesting that the BBB puts the responsibility and blame onto the receiver aka consumer to "follow up safely")

(edit: WTF are they being paid for? And why do they even exist?)

I got scammed. No details are going to be given. The reason I'm telling you this is what I did about it.

Of course, once the scam went down, I became a mark, probably on the dark web. I got the usual click on this to correct your address for your DHL delivery, and other 'offers'. I had nothing coming so that was plain old fashioned phishing.

So when you open a email (I don't see a problem with looking at an email, any email, just not links, etc.) you can click to see the "raw" version. This has every single detail about the email even if the sender is using phony IP's. I copy that in its entirety, paste it into a reply, and they go away.

That may not be the best defense, but it stopped the follow up scams right then and there. I expect the info will be washed and rinsed and I'll get more at some point. I'll just do the same.

Oh, and always a copy to the email host.

The ISP is the direct means of transportation for a virus.

The E-Mail provider is the entity accepting and storing it in their own data bases, in perpetuity.
They have the most time, and means, to filter locally-stored data.

The international routing system(s) which transmits the virus across multiple networks are the carriers of such.

But you, the person sitting at home, is entirely to blame for clicking on a familiar icon which is 'trusted'.

You are able to enter words. Care to explain what they mean? Or are you that complicated? I don't think I've ever read something as obscure as that.

Must be geek speak.
