Vanessa Bryant lawsuit settles for 28.85 Million

I'd say a few people lost their jobs from this. Other victims had settlements too.

Wouldn't it be cool if she donated that money to charity.

No idea on the truthfulness of this but a pilot friend told me that Kobe insisted on flying a route or something that was against the pilot's recommendation. Which resulted in the crash.

I believe it.

Question is? Who had the very deep pockets?

This. any other berieved family where pictures of their lost one ended up on the internet got diddley squat , or a much smaller amount at best.

when Nikki Catsouras crashed her daddy's porsche on a toll booth, with horrific pictures of her mutilated body leaked..the CHP officers first tried to fob it off as freedom of speech, then tried to BS it as well its a deterrant to others .. in the end the CHP settled for 2.4 Million.

And those were VERY graphic pictures

What part of the Bryant pictures made those worth 10x More??
Was it the lighting?
more gore? less gore.

And I'm sure if it was a blue collar worker who got killed and his stay at home widow sued..for pics leaked to internet.. she probably would have been lucky to get 240K awarded which would barely have covered the legal eagles.. and netted her 24 K at best.

dead celebrities should not be worth more than dead rich daddy girls or normal working people.

These kinds of things should not vary as wildly within the same state even.. Class justice indeed

LA County.

Multi millionaire recovers multiple millions from the county

She really ought to donate all of it.

Interesting. There are lots and lots of photos out there that would be similar. The girl who crashed the Porsche at the toll booth, I've seen others, some horrific motorcycle accidents (at a certain point, you can't even call them donors any more). Just think if all of those folks start suing.

How much PPP did she receive?
only a select few listed here...https://www.nbcnews.com/business/business-news/here-are-some-billionaires-who-got-ppp-loans-while-small-n1233041

-There are websites dedicated to gore, but mostly from 3rd world countries.
-Major news networks cover accidents and violence minus the aftermath every night.

I agree that first responders shouldn't sell or sensationalize their gruesome jobs, but this ruling is fantastical to the actual damages unless the whims of elites outweighs the very lives of plebeians.

I wouldn’t know him or her if they walked past me. If Joe Blow had a wreck, and the cops took pictures, Mrs. Joe Blow certainly would not be getting millions of dollars.

The cynic in me wonders: Why would they lose their jobs?

The officers/deputies/etc made a bad mistake. But they're not the ones worried about paying Vanessa Bryant $29 mil. That's what irks me as an LA County taxpayer.

I actually applaud this settlement. Ever watch the movie Night Crawler, starring Jake Gyllenahaal? Really chilling movie about a totally sociopathic, unfeeling news "reporter", who even films his own partner dying.

No one needs to see, on the evening news, film or photos of their dismembered loved ones. The folks who made this footage available only did so because celebrities were involved. They were all hoping to profit, in some way - either monetarily or some form of really sick social media "cred" - by sharing.

Beyond the lawsuits against the agencies that employed them, these individuals need to be held accountable. Civilly, criminally, or preferably both.

On this we agree. I think every deputy involved should be fired. Unfortunately nobody lost their job, thats a fact. I don't care if it's Kobe Bryant or the guy next door. Going to a bar and showing pictures of someone's destroyed mutilated body is not acceptable.

Interestingly, one of the idiot deputies who showed the pictures, is also the same idiot deputy who was caught up in a use of force/ knee on the neck incident that was on the news awhile back....

At my old job we processed large prints for courtroom trials before digital projectors. The lawyers always waited until the day before the trial to order dozens old 20x24 prints of horrendous crash scenes or injuries to show the jury. I had to stay late, lots of overtime and print them when the other employees had gone home for the day. It was a real challenge to not look at the gore of a mangled human and just the print to make sure it was focused, and good color and density.

One of the worst was a 12 year old that wanted to climb up on a oil well pump jack and ride it like a horse. He slipped off and was just mangled and cut up by the equipment. I would box them up and post a note for the front counter people DO NOT OPEN.

The lawyers paid through the nose for me to be making the prints late into the night. And often they just called us and said please just destroy the photos, we settled out of court. They still paid the bill.

I can't image why anyone would want to see those photos. And they were not the worst of what we sometimes had to print.

Nobody here knows what was in those photos. Also nobody here knows what she will do with the money. It’s crazy to see just how quickly people are to demonize someone they’ve never met. Maybe LA county will better screen the people they hire to do these types of jobs. $29 million might make them think about that.

We had a guy from Atlanta that was a photographer and he would take all of our company pictures for advertising, employees etc. He was also a photographer for the Atlanta Police Department and surrounding area. This was in the 90s.

He carried around photo albums of all of his work from different crime scenes, etc. I looked at A few pictures and that was enough.

I still remember the one guy who worked in a sawmill. He was cut diagonally across the torso by a huge sawblade. He was laying on either side of the blade and still wearing his thick black glasses.

I wish I had not looked.

Did you mean that part in green?! Surely you have an idea of how government bureaucracy works, no? Different department, but this is a reflection of the local political/social mentality. (I'm referring to the part of the article related to the second half of the headline.)

Your first statement is incorrect. But I agree with everything else.

I helped the police department get their photolab back into quality control standards. They had a truly incompetent guy running it for a while and the photos all came out just green to an extreme. I printed some crime scene photos that are just something it is hard to imaging humans doing to other humans. You really don't want to know.

Back then our commercial photo lab was a certified Q-lab from Kodak and they did stringent checks on our film processing. I had to process a film strip they sent and just mail it back to them. We were one the few that ever maintained the Q-lab certification for many years, until the end of film days.

I had a neighbor who worked at Port Mugu Naval Base that would take pictures at base events and promotion in rank ceremonies.

When that passenger jet traveling from Cabo to Seattle crashed into the Pacific he was tasked with photographing the bodies as they pulled them from the ocean. He offered to show me pics but I politely declined.

I read the description of injuries in the Kobe crash, not something I'd care to look at.
