Happy Birthday, DSOM

Fifty years ago today, March 1, 1973. Thank you Pink Floyd for dropping this on the universe.

I was in my first year of college when it dropped.
We listened to it every day/night. It sure didn't help my grades.

What an album.

It’s chart topping record will never even come close to being matched.

Funny. I am 56. I am a bigger fan of Pink Floyd now than I was in High School. And I was a fan back then.

It grows on you.

It's a 'live concert' that I regret having never attended.

Friends that have...rave more about the light show than the music. (in the early 70's)
They (PF), were definitely the leaders in live concert light shows.

For 1973 it was a undeniably a major album.

Personally the 1973 release of ZZ Top's Tres Hmbres was more important to me. A haw haw haw.

I do have the vinyl of both and later a CD version of each. But for Tres Hombres, I bought it on Quadraphonic 8 track and wore it out and the player ate it. I replaced it with a standard 8 track as Quadraphonic was vanishing. The player in my car ate that. I switched to Cassette, and bought it again. That was eaten. I finally slapped my forehead and just bought the album, and made my own cassettes. Then the CD version came out in the 1990s. Then I bought the 6 pcak, so one more copy of Tres Hombres.

This is the music the Bulls would play for the opposing team's intro:

"On the Run" by Pink Floyd

And this is the music they would play for their intro:

"Sirius" by The Alan Parsons Project

===========

Both albums engineered by Alan Parson.

The CD is getting worn out in my fishing boat.
And the x took all of my albums.

^^^ I had all their albums at one time....including the double album by Syd Barrett.

Sold them all for a dollar each when audio cassettes became popular. (regretfully)

The most amazing song about war and life ever:

According to Waters: "The first verse is about going to war, how on the front line we don’t get much chance to communicate with one another, because someone else has decided that we shouldn’t. The second verse is about civil liberties, racism and colour prejudice. The last verse is about passing a tramp in the street and not helping."

I remember when we got our first stereo that had a CD player in 1985 and this was the first CD I ever bought.

Australian Pink Floyd is touring in North America this year. We saw them about 5 years ago at the "Fabulous Fox" Theatre in Atlanta.
We are planning to see them again in September - but this time it's at a different venue.

My freshman year of college in 73...I had an electronics geek across the hall from me in the dorm.

He had a high-end stereo with a light show in his small room. He also had a 12"? square screen oscilloscope hooked up his sound system and played DSOM almost continually.

He had a constant flow of people in his room to see and listen to it.
