Stupid humans are sometimes scary!

I was at the gas station, getting gas. Easy enough. There is one pump with a white hose for E-85 at the station I frequent. A normal looking mid 30s male human gets out and starts to pump some E-85 in his Ford sedan. I am pumping 100% gasoline a few pumps away. He starts jumping around, and then tosses the nozzle on the ground, and the side of the white hose is spraying out a stream of fuel. It continues to spray fuel, as he runs inside. I finish pumping my gas, and pull my car over to the other end of the parking lot away from the pumps, and go over to the gas spill and see what is happening.

Sure enough the pump is still running, but the nozzle is not letting fuel out, there is a puncture in the side of the hose. The 30 something male comes back over and I suggested he just hang the nozzle up in the spot and the pump will turn off. He does, and sure enough the the pump stops pressurizing the hose and the spray of fuel stops. I suggest he go back inside and get the clerk to bring out the spill cleanup material. He let $7.50 in fuel spray on the ground. The clerk came out upset he was going to have to report a fuel spill, and deal with the mess. I suggested to the clerk (a 20 something male) he put a bag on that pump and an out order sign up on it.

He told me to f-off, so I did, I left.

Not my pig, not my farm.

Two idiot human males, (neither qualified as a man in my world of definitions)

And they both likely vote. Scary thought.

Some folks don't perform well under stress.
Aren't you glad the guy pumping gas wasn't smoking?

At least he wasn't one of those that set the gas nozzle to start and then go inside to buy lotto tickets.
I see unattended gas pumping all the time.

there's usually a big red emergency shut off button somewhere near the pump. i know our brains aren't working and we almost never notice it. but it's there.

still, first priority is to get you and yours away from the idiot zone. then help.

Yesterday morning on my way over to Mom's, I stop to fuel up the Volvo.

Pulled in on the left side of two pump station - up to the forward pump - guy on other side sitting half-arse in his truck cab puffing on a coffin nail while fueling.

I put her in reverse back to the rear pump and proceed with fueling. Kid on other side shaking his head - "Not very smart, is he?"

Wise of you to pull away from the pumps. Walking up to the spill? I dunno. Glad a spark didn't happen.

I pull up to pump some gas and the guy on the other side of the pump is tokin’ a dooger.

So I yells, ‘Put that cigarette out, you trying to blow us up!’

Guy looks over gets a huge sheepish look, then throws the burning butt on the ground and stomps on it! Now I don’t know about youse guys but there’s almost always a drop or two of fuel that leaks out…

It gets worse.

An ex called Rosina left the nozzle in the car. Paid for the fuel then drove off. It ripped the hose off at the pump.

THEN she did it again. She said "The boys at the gas station are so lovely, when I start talking with them I forget all about the nozzle still in the car. So I drove off again without thinking about it."

After that she says "The boys are so cute, when they see me coming they run out of the store and fill the car for me." I bet they do!

Lower MPG

Because it's a blend of alcohol and gasoline, a typical car burns 20-30% more quantity to match the figures that regular gasoline pumps out. That translates into 20-30% fuel consumption increase over the same number of miles vs regular gasoline.

The ones that have just a brain stem struggle the most.

I had to presume his car was engineered for E-85. That station sells Diesel, E-85, E-10 regular, and ethanol free regular, mid octane, and premium. I use their regular in the El Camino and the premium in the 911.

The diesel pump is always a brown oil stain on the concrete, on the side with the diesel.

I have never paid attention to the E-85 prices. With the federal subsidies to corn farmers and ethanol production the E-10 is cheaper. I never buy it unless it is for a rental going back to the rental car place.
