Alonzo knew to keep the big boss happy and let the boss's kid stay ahead. I guess Alonzo damaged his floor too much in qualifying with his trip into the gravel.

Don't forget a few races back, Stroll caught up to Alonso and radioed the pits asking them to assure Fernando he would not attack. Alonso's response,"He can have a go if he likes.".
Mercedes has made some good gains but RB is in a different league.

I don't think there is any doubt that Adrian Newey is the chassis whisperer . The Red Bull is fast , has downforce and is gentle on the tires . At the moment the only chassis that covers all the bases .

F1 car development pace moves quickly, that Redbull floor will be out of date compared to their latest iteration being run in the wind tunnel

Any team copying it will be 2-3 months behind where Redbull are now
