What tool is this

Found this in my dads stuff and not sure what it is.

All of the rods thread into each other and the tool part can also accept the threads.

Looks like a compass for use with a scribe or torch.

Best

I suppose it had to endure duty in the harsh climate of Vietnam. It’s definitely well made, not flimsy at all.

Hops #9

I have a friend with the last name 'Hoppa'...pronounced just as it's spelled.
He doesn't like being called 'Hoppy'

So, yes I always call the gun cleaner 'Hoppa's

That was quick!

I understand how all the threaded rods go together and you would put your patch in the eye with cleaner, but what does the small upper piece do?

^ I was thinking the same thing. I wonder if you can take the whole gun apart with that one little tool.

Not the whole gun, but for a "field strip", yes. Also serves as a handle for the cleaning rod. I have a similar kit in a small pouch, made for the M1 Garand. It also contains a small bottle divided inside..one side for grease, the other for oil.

It's the handle so you have something to grip to pull the rod through the barrel.
