How long can you hold your breath?
Me just 46 seconds. The average person can for 30-90 seconds. Freaking Tom Cruise held his breath for an excess of 6 minutes. That’s torture and impressive.

I've made it a minute before...decided it wasn't worth it to try for longer.

Get off my lawn!

It takes practice. As a kid my brother and I has contests underwater to see how long we could last. I got up to 3.5 minutes. As an old geezer, no way I get to a minute.
6 minutes is impressive. Some 56 year old guy just went almost 25 minutes! https://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/news/2021/5/freediver-holds-breath-for-almost-25-minutes-breaking-record-660285

If you’re asking how long I used to be able to hold my breath, it’s 2min.

Being 70 I was surprised I made it to a minute.

Yep, you can train to hold for longer. In addition to the training/practicing to hold for longer, there are also techniques to enable longer hold periods as well. TC, I believe, is a driver high achiever, and has time and money to ensure that he gets the best training/coaching. 6 mins is a long time. I can't remember how long I was able to hold for when I was younger.

I'm currently at 3 min/24 sec. If you have interest, "Breath" by James Nestor is a very interesting read. Erwin Le Corre of MovNat fame is also a good resource on the topic. |

I get the impression that you weren't exactly "holding" your breath.

Mike Nelson (Lloyd Bridges) - five minutes on one episode (I've been checking out Sea Hunt on Roku).

it's all practice, as a kid I could do 3 minutes with minimal exertion and my friend's dad would stay down spearfishing seemingly twice as long as me !! Nowadays ? peanuts, so it's use it or lose it... practice !!! Not sure how useful it is though (unless you drive off a bridge)

![]() In a previous voluntary breathing holding I did hold my breath long enough to dive down to 100ft and back up in a 10 story high naval submarine escape tower
