well done Fred. The take away for me is that by you being gracious and accomodating, you may have in some indirect way helped a kid who was really in trouble be helped and saved by the vey same people who came and visited you.

She says she probably would have spoken with the parents first but obviously not knowing the kid or having first hand information she could see another educator reading more into it. Once kids are potty trained they don’t tend to regress so it is something that would get some scrutiny. That type of sudden change can be an indicator of some other issue either medical or trauma. The problem is, as Fred described it, the big rash. That doesn’t happen from one accidental poop so the neglect thought is not a stretch. If it’s a reasonable suspicion they are obligated to report.
