Top Gun: Maverick

This looks awesome!

I loved the original. In 1986 I was 21 and a private in the Australian Army. (Release date: 31 July 1986, Australia)
Everybody was talking about it at the time and I saw it in on the big screen.

Great memories.

I too enjoyed the first one, I was 22. I'll probably go see it. I suspect Tom Cruise will be the only original cast member. The rest didn't hold up so well.

Val Kilmer is in it but no details yet. I'm guessing he's been doing Jenny Craig for some time.

Here’s hoping that the plot isn’t as hokey as the first one.

And, please God, don’t put Kelly McGinnis back in it.

I was afraid that it was going to be some sort of reboot with the new crop of young actors. I'm glad that TC is still in it. He's a nutter, but I'm not his neighbor and I don't have to hang out with him. He's very good at what he does and the movies that he makes are usually pretty entertaining.

Hell, many/most of us have nutters in the family or for in laws or as neighbors.

This looks like it'll be entertaining. I'm in to watch it, but probably once it's available to stream or on DVD because I don't go to the theater that often.

Favorite movie of my childhood. Plus I'm an aviation geek. I'll probably be there opening night.

Ouch!

Hokey doesn't begin to describe the thin gruel plot arch of the first movie - he would have lost his wings numerous times.

I will, however, suspend reality again and watch the sequel

I was on the Big E during filming and word was out that TC was a bit of a little *****. He complained about having to share a statesroom.

No, I’m not in any of the cheezy cheering squid shots. I was out on my starboard antenna platform during some of the flight op shooting but that was off the catwalk well out of the way of the Cats.

I'll go see it.

Lotsa personal things about TC I'm not a fan of at all but that's not why I watch his films.

He's a great actor. I don't think he has ever "phoned it in"

And that he does as many of his own stunts as he can gets my respect.

Last MI he spent a year learning to fly a helicopter for what amounted to maybe 30 seconds of screen time.

Something to look forward to- too bad it's a year away. Top Gun is one of those movies I don't get tired of watching over and over. So much to enjoy and appreciate about it. I think TC more than delivers in terms of his acting, so I have no issue not even thinking about his personal beliefs. He doesn't hurt anybody.

When he plays the character Jack Reacher, it’s an insult to the entire universe.

That said, I’ve heard the plot involves drones. With all of the memorable things our Air Force and Navy have done in the last few decades, why would they pick a battle with drones? Just like the bad script writing that plagued the end of the first movie, this has total fail written all over it.

All of the above. Some people just can’t compartmentalize. I’m definitely going to watch it. Too much Navy geek in me not to. I was on the fence about the first movie at the time but, it’s still enjoyable to watch now and then. Do like the MI series as well.

Will give TC all the props for working hard at his craft. He must be hell to insure

Jennifer Connelly as the love interest... Yes!

What's not to like? I am all in!

I worked a bit on it. Filmed at China Lake and San Diego among other locations. They screened an 8 minute "teaser" at the Naval Academy in Annapolis for the brass and bigwigs to thank them for their help and technical assistance on the film.

The aviation footage is supposed to be spectacular, the best ever put on film, no CGI. It recieved a standing ovation from the Admirals and Top Gun pilots after the screening.

Serious suspension of disbelief required but yeah I'll go see it...no butter on the popcorn though. Kilmer will need cgi effects to fit on the screen.

Goose was great as the RIO. Would have been cool if Goose's son was a naval aviator in this sequel.
