Tell me about your first* (*movie)

I remember "Yours, Mine and Ours" although I had probably seen others before that.
I cried when the little guys bike fell apart at christmas time. I guess I was a bike guy even back when I was about 5!

Goldfinger at the drive in. I was 4 and brother was 5. They had a small playground there with swings and Jungle Gym but we were in our pajamas so didn't get to participate.

I remember parts of the movie, especially when the girl was painted gold. Me and my brother switched around from watching Goldfinger on our screen and trying to catch glimpses of the film playing on the other screen (don't know what it was). Fell asleep and never made it to the end.

Not my first by any means but I remember (and I don't know how) going with 3 others guys to Grauman's Chinese Theater in Hollywood to se the just released 2001: A Space Odyssey." We were stoned out of our minds smoking hash off a golf ball sized chunk all the way there. It was spectacular but I had to go see it again to figure it out.

1968, I was 23.

American Graffiti first release at the drive in and Dad let us sit on the roof of the Oldsmobile.

First theater movie was Rocky in 76 when I was 9. First movie that glued me to the set was the Day the Earth Stood Still, probably when I was 4 or 5. Couldn't sleep, went downstairs in the middle of night, turned on the TV and it had just started. Was transfixed.

Wow! I saw that when it first came out & thought it was great. It was at the BK Theatre, where tickets cost a quarter. At the young age I was then, I didn't think about it as a statement against nuclear weapons, for peace, etc.

The first real movie at a theater I can recall was when I was in 6th grade. The father, of a
classmate of mine loaded a bunch of us kids in his car and drove us about 35 miles to Seattle.
We went to the Cinarama which was the largest curved screen theater in the area. The movie
was Grand Prix. It was incredible to see on that screen especially when they did the split screen
of action at once. It was the first time I had bon bons, and at the concession stand they had postcards of scenes from the movie that you could take. The opening scenes with the carbs and details of the cars was so cool. I still watch the movie on DVD at least once a year. John Frankenheimer was the director a true legend.. Many decades later Paul Allen purchased the theatre and restored it.

Vaguely remember seeing Lady and the Tramp in a theater, but I would have been very young.

Definitely remember seeing the original Star Wars when it came out. That was an event!

Earliest one I can remember was going to a drive in with my family while on vacation in FL. saw "CC and Company" with Joe Namath. He played a guy in a motorcycle gang.

Vividly remember the opening scene with him walking through a supermarket taking stuff off the shelves and making himself a sandwich.

Earliest was in elementary school, sitting on the cold auditorium floor, were Born Free, about lions raised as cubs.
Also Australian films Walkabout and Joey, about and his roo iirc.

For some reason Thunderball scared me more than Jaws.

Not the first but a very memorable movie experience I had was when I saw Star Wars in the theater. We lived in Destin, Florida on Gulfshore Drive, beach was across the street. The house across from us on the beach was the Mill's family, of Olan Mills Picture Studios, that Mills family. Anyhoo, they had two daughters, Lundy and Malone, and my sister and I became friends with them as they visited quite often. One day they invited us and a couple other of their friends to go see this new movie called Star Wars and Mr Mills drove us to the theater in their limousine. It was so cool to pull up to the theater, exit the limo and go straight inside because they had already bought us our tickets. I will never forget it!!!

Silent running. I got into the theater for free (with my parents). I was 4 or 5.

Thinking about that movie connects me with who I was then. Sad ending - that little robot out in the dark all alone tending to the last forest with that dented watering can.

I do remember the one thing I did at the cinema. Play or touch the lights at the end of the isle and I remember it well and I always looked forward to that. Some were strip lights on the floor. It always caught my attention especially being so dark inside. I was maybe 3-4 but I never venture too far because I knew I would never find my parents due to the darkness. I am sure I saw bit and pieces of the movies, but I know I can't stay seated for too long. By today's standard, they would have tried to drugged my ass up and slap me with ADHD diagnoses.

The first movie I remember clearly is The Poseidon Adventure (1972 - I was 7 years old).

- Jean Hackman kept blamed God for every thing that went wrong!
- Shelley Winters died of a heart attack after swimming under water (Jean also blamed God for her death).
- And then right near the end Jean gives up and falls into water/fire?

All very dramatic at the time but it hasn't aged well.

(Shelley Winters wasn't what I would call "fat" by today's standards but they often referred to her weight during the movie)

I have distinct memories of this one; my dad took 9-year old me and my younger sister. He never really talked about his taste in music, and since our little town of Palatka, FL, only had one movie house, this was it that week.



What I *do* absolutely remember about the experience was the "coming soon" poster in the lobby:



It was the first inkling that not all adults were prim, proper and well-behaved. It was a gateway to hearing my first George Carlin album, and it's been a thrill-ride ever since.
