Based on the video of this chick, this might not be large enough.

Don't seat them near the wing, it's just too tough on the pilot keeping the plane level.

This issue is one of the many reasons that I have not flown in years. Too many large people next to me, oozing into my paid for space. Especially bad on the commuter planes. UGH!
Pretty much my flying now is float planes on Fly in Canada trips. And I drive from home to the float base in Canada.

Yep. Unfortunately 17" width is very much industry standard for economy.

They have a way to measure your take-on luggage to see if it fits. Why not an ass-width measuring device?

Just need a scale by the gate, and its a set price per pound. Say a buck a pound one way. My 110 lb wife thinks that is a great idea.

Hell, they could put scales and lasers in the metal-detection tube. 3 in one. And like someone above said, it they're doing this I want some legroom and shoulder room and I want the airlines to pay for it. While we're at it, double up the width of the armrest between seats so everyone can use it.

But I always try out of courtesy to not extend over the single 4" armrest without a barrier which is supposed to be shared by two passengers . It's a bad design. By design. Don't blame the guy next to you. And it has never been fixed.... How is some booking agent running around supposed to fill seats appropriately at short notice? Passenger seating and moving space has been shrunk by far margins and aircraft interiors completely redesigned to fill maximum capacity. Steering the dollar herd. Efficiency does not always equal comfort. This is all instead of: -Increased prices and lack of more standby availability. Some passengers might have to wait a few hours for a long trip. -I've spent days waiting in crappy airports with limited things to do. What are the other transportation options? Nada.Zilch.Zero. -Complete lack of basic customer communication..........................! -Greed. AKA. Trying to fill another department's complete fk'up. -Lack of larger planes and lesser international overseas flight. That should have been be easy to fill with price reductions. (per Kach22 and Airbus debacle). -Other factors.

the final leg to get home often involves a cessna 207 or a piper navaho. the pilot will eyeball us and assign seats based on weight to keep the plane balanced.

In a three seat arrangement....I always give the middle seat passenger the armrest.
The aisle and the window seats have their own on their outsides....but the middle seat deserves the armrests on both sides of him/her.

Maybe change to a pay by the pound ticket pricing structure just like any other type of shipping/courier/mail...

No mo shareholder profit margins. It makes sense on paper, to my own detriment, but would not work.

The market has spoken.
Passengers will put up with quite a bit of discomfort for a three dollar discount in ticket prices. If people quit purchasing the cheapest tickets, the airline would respond. |

I'll take the bulkhead seat every chance I get because the armrests do not go up.

From the article:
"Being forced to occupy only one seat can result in pain and vulnerability to poor treatment from fellow passengers," she added. Well no kidding. Everyone else on the plane doesn't want to sit next to you as you will spill over into the seat they paid for. And furthermore, you probably will be wearing a tank top so the poor person next to you has to touch your skin. She has this all in reverse. It is the other passengers that are having to bear the burden of her obesity and XXXL size even though they paid for a seat and would just like to sit in it without being scrunched by her.
