My friend bought himself another hotrod
I'm hoping I get to give it a try. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1682450434.jpg

Nice, what engine is in it?
|
427?
|
And what is it exactly? There are so many companies making replicas of that car.
|
There's not a 427 in it now, maybe later, hard to find I think. I think its a 302 ci
It's a local build from about 25 yrs ago. Owner didn't want it so my bud bought it. Needs a better Cobra look. Needs Halibrands. and other stuff . But it's a good driver, and I know he'll make it better. |
Is that a Pinto?

A Cobra is just a classic sexy shape . So iconic I always loved them . Not very practical but must be a hoot to drive .
|
In 1970 I could have bought a 289 Cobra with a blown engine for $5000. I didn't have all the money and the bank didn't think it was worth a $2500 loan.

Average new car in 1970 was $3500 |

Looks slow and boring. Why would you want to test drive it?
I like that it's green. So often they are red or blue. I remember seeing one around Houston a time or two where the stripes looked like snakeskin. Not my thing, but to each his own. |

They sure do look fun. I prefer the narrow body too. They look a little too much like an austin healey but its a good luck anyway. Though im sure you would want wider tires with a 427. I dont know why eveybody puts bfg radial t/a on them they are terrible. Hot rod guys i guess

Yeah, you're right why bother. I suppose if he begs me I might give it a try. |
Steve, I'm with you
No fondness for large rear ends. Best Les |
Nice....a big engine, a cupla seats, 4 wheels and a round thing to steer...my idea of driving...love it.
|
Narrow body for sure.
|
That blue AC/Cobra with the Borrani wheels absolutely nails the look that those of us (of a certain age) fell in love with at first sight.
Young Lust. (I'll take mine in Chrome Yellow) Yellowperil, I can't wait to hear your report on how you like driving the reproduction! |
The Cobras have always been on the list for me. I would like a Superformance car with a short-stroke small block ford. My cousin had one with a 427 and it just felt like the front was too heavy.
|
A friend had a Superformance with a built 351 in it if I recall correctly. He was kind enough to let me and another friend of ours drive it around the block, alone.
I didn't get over the whiplash I gave myself for two weeks after that drive. Scary quick HARD acceleration like I'd never felt before or since. Makes my neck hurt just thinking about it now. |
Had a friend that bought one. Said he always wanted one. After a year he sold it. Burnt ankles from the side pipes and worrying about not being able to catch it if it gets sideways plus his wife said she'd never ride in it which doesn't sound like a real problem.
|
I wouldn't kick a narrow body out of the garage . Another classic shape just different . Superformance definitely builds some nice stuff . Many of the kit builders have closed shop . The ones left standing I think build pretty good stuff .

Has always been on my list.

I agree with Freddie Mercury, it's the fat as*ed ones that make the rockin' world go round. Just sayin'

See the picture of the fridge in the top picture,?
guess what's in it. I'll give ya 3 choices. A. Beer, B. Welding rods, C. Vegan snacks.

They are an iconic shape and cool but original AC Cobras were an absolute torture chamber to drive or ride in. No one ever kept one for long because they simply were not usable. The polar opposite of a 911, which was an everyday usable car.
The heat from the engine/transmission tunnel turned them into a literal oven and they were extremely loud and uncomfortable. People like to romanticize fantasies of cars but they were a POS in actual practice. Sorry. |
This thread reminds me of a hotdog...
You know it ain't good for you but it looks tasty and ya still want one anyways :D |
That fridge is full of Bud Light, isn't it
Dude, sort of a long way around the barn to make a tranny fluid joke, cool car though. I like uncomfortable, impractical cars |
Nice car, I'd keep the small block in it if it was mine.

If I could afford to own one I'd build a small block Chevy with a roller rocker cam and put a '65 Rockchester big box fuel injection unit on it. Just to piss off the purists.

Carroll Shelby always preferred the original 289 Cobra with the narrow body, said they just handled better. Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk |
So I got to road test this "Cobra" and it's quite nice. Needs a few little things, nothing serious. Drives nice I enjoyed it. I may get to drive it a bit more as I'm the only one who can fit in it. . I knew it would come in handy some day to be under size.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1682717853.jpg

Dennis, you're not undersized, you're vertically challenged.
Best Les |
"Fun sized"
