Great example. Reason being, Word is trying to export a word document in html. Not a web page that is compliant with responsive design, etc...

Everyone here knows who I am.

I've never tried to hide it.

All these years and I've never seen your last name ....

I used my full name decades ago for years .... it could probably still be found if someone cared enough. Thought it might have been an oversight on your part....

I don't see how Word Press makes this any easier. I asked my high school granddaughter about WP and she said never heard of it. She's on an engineering and art track. She has a web page. She also has no time being a straight A student.

Another story, I signed up to do a webinar produced by Green Geeks. I think the host was in Sweden and the presenter was in Puerto Rico. I learned a bit about the menu and sub menus. He went to fast and the running comments indicated that. Even the host butted in to say slow down.

I came away with little to nothing.

No one reads the raw HTML anyway.

Go do view/source of Google homepage with one textbox.
It is 50 screen loads of code

Wordpress is a ****ing blog site.
Are you starting a blog?
Then use Wordpress.

You need a stupid static website? Build a Wix page.

You've already been given the answer, if that is your question.
Yet you haven't bothered to state what in the hell you're trying to build.
Inability to articulate WTF you even want rendered shot in the dark advice.

The majority of humans don't read the raw code, but every browser does and that's the whole point.

All that code on googles homepage is not for just the one box.

That page is doing far more than simply providing visitors a search function. Still, it uses the least and most efficient code it can to execute all the functions, beyond a search box, it's designed to perform.

But if you had a 1/10th of a clue about what you are talking about you'd know that.

1. Unless you are talking about wordpress.org then no, wordpress is not a site. It's a CMS. It's a platform used to create sites.

2. Yes, it started as a platform to build blogging sites but hasn't been just that in over a decade. More than 800 million websites, 40+% of all sites on the internet today are built on it.

3. It seems even Zeke understands all of this better than you. (no offense intended Zeke)

Go suck someplace else. I mentioned over the course of 2 posts what my basic objective is. If that wasn't clear enough for you, I mentioned putting up "Site under construction." At least that gives me a place to go to in order to add pics, videos, links and a bit of text about what I do. Design is not important to me.

Again, who gives a damn what the browser needs to read?
That's the POINT of a browser.

Has this trainwreck been resolved yet?
Static page? You can save an HTML file from any one of a billion WYSIWYG editors. Literally a 30 second solution.
Blog? Wordpress.

There are plenty of them out there - Wordpress has been around for a decade though and is well known (no shade on your engineer). For a while I ran a commercial website off it with an ecommerce plug in. Its viable.

That said - there are a zillion "make your own website" companies out there. Yours is pretty simple and I'm sure any can accomodate. If you plan on keeping it simple - then any will work. If you want to expand (online payments, embedded video, etc..) there may be some more suitable.

Here are some examples of nice websites using Wordpress:

https://www.webbyawards.com/

https://www.historymuseum.ca/

My business (link below) uses a similar platform (Joomla) that is also a CMS like Wordpress.

I’ve built some simple websites with Wix. historiclaurelhurst.com (website inactive so links etc may be broken, but you get the idea.)

While professional designers won’t use it, for a dummy it is fine.

I’ve also used Wordpress, it was harder and for my rudimentary purposes I didn’t see the advantage. My business website uses WP, because that’s what my designer uses. laurelhurstasset.com

Suspect you don’t do this for a living.
If you did you’d not be waving your ignorance about quite so vigorously.
Browsers don’t all work exactly the same way - you (one) can spend a lot of time in workarounds to get round their idiosyncrasies.

I hat thought earlier you could not not be any more ignorant on the subject and here you are, proving me wrong.

Your lack of knowledge of even the basics of how any of this works is staggering.

Your advice is bad and unproductive. Typical dogmatic tekkie
I have answered his question with actionable advice.

I'm gonna disagree with you. What you see as "dogma" is, in fact, very important.

Malformed and poor HTML gets websites de-ranked with google. Since google organic search rank is the #1 source of all traffic to most websites - getting relegated to lower pages is death.

Images too close? Derank
Non-responsive? Derank
Slow? Derank
Not mobile compatible? Derank.

Hence having well formed HTML that doesn't cause the google crawler to flag pages with warnings, etc... is very important.

(...and its "techie" as long as we're being pedandtic and dogmatic)

What is being overlooked here is that I'm not looking for traffic, only validation. My work is strictly local, almost one zip code. Yet I hear the BS, "Do you have a website?" from people I don't know as if that is going to help them know me personally. But if that's all they want to jingle in their shorts, I can oblige.

I used to run ads 20 years ago when people could and would read print. Waste of money these days unless you do a full court press with all the social media stuff as a back up. f that.

What you need is clear, a presence.

However, that presence can hurt far more than it helps if it's not done even reasonably well.

How it looks, clean and modern may help. If it looks like a website out of the 80's it will hurt.

I know you know that and my reason for stating it is simply to reiterate that to create something that meets a standard where it helps you takes certain tools. No different than the tools you use to ply your trade. I'm reasonably sure you've got more than a hammer in your toolbox.

I've seen the work you've shared with us in the past and you are a true craftsman, a rarity these days.

If you want to PM and chat I'm happy to lend whatever assistance or guidance you need.

I've done more here for people I like less.
