Sending iPhone photos to Android phones.
What's the secret sauce? I've tried many things, shooting in JPEG, shooting in Hi Efficiency, Cropping, HDR on, HDR off, Live on, Live off...... The best workaround that I've found, and it's terrible, is to send them to email and when prompted, reduce the file size to the lowest option, then resending that file to the recipient. When it works, (not always), the quality is awful.
I know this is a known issue, but I also understand it doesn't affect everybody. Any tips or tricks that I can use?

No good way to do it via text.
email is the next best way from an ease of use point of view. Most email should be able to send an attachment of several MB. The best way if the two phones are in the same place is probably via bluetooth transfer. From there, probably upload to a website (like Dropbox) that would then allow the other person to download. The wife and I, and both kids and my mom and one of the kids' spouse all have iPhones. The other spouse is on Android. Our solution is to transfer everything between the folks that have iPhones, and then the odd man out can look at all of the pics and video on his spouses iPhone. I do usually upload videos to YT, so I can then send a link out to everyone including him.

Thanks, Steve, I appreciate the input. Such a hassle, and I know people who don't even know what I'm talking about because they send photos cross platform all day long and no issues. Probably a carrier thing.
I have Signal and that works OK when everyone is on it, but multi-viewer text blasts aren't always a good fit.

I send photos to Faceplant shared with no one and then copy, msg, txt, from messenger or my laptop.
One thing to consider: The embedded location information is removed from the photo by Faceplant.

As geeky as I am I am a phone idiot... but I was actually doing this a week or so ago. And darn if I can find it now... and I've not updated iOS recently either....
Did find how to do it for all images sent via text - https://www.wikihow.com/Reduce-the-Size-of-Images-Sent-by-Text-on-an-iPhone This will work for me, since anything the wife needs high quality of I can send via email.

I will say that we can send pics and videos via text cross-platform. The problem is that the images are shrunk way down. When sent between iPhones the images are full resolution.
It works cross-platform, just not as well as it does between two Apple products. |

^^^ Just checked, and that was already activated. Thanks anyway for the suggestion.
I'm really starting to believe that it's my carrier, or else I have something tripped, or not tripped.

I know that in the past some carriers enabled support for multimedia SMS separately. I would expect the big three to support it (at&t, Verizon, T-Mobile ) but others on a budget may or may not. |

Sms is an old crappy protocol.
Apple delighted its customers by inventing ‘imessage’ which automagically works well when iphones text each other. This mostly excludes non iphones. Solution - There are other cross platform messaging networks, agree to use one that isnt owned by a hardware vendor. My advice: Sign up for whatsapp (owned by facehole) Free ip messaging, share docs, pics, videos.. Also replaces apples facetime, cross platform to desktop computers too. it seems like its used by most of the savvy young people that i want to interact with. Steps: Download/install whatsapp to phone Sihn in/Validate yourself with your cell number Get your friends to do the same I dont let app see my contact list. Use app to message each others cell number. Theres a big of bother to approve contact with each other, but once youve approved a number the app works great. Free - meaning you are the product. |

Thanks, Zak. I appreciate your advice and suggestions
I've used WhatsApp in the past, but I mostly use Signal for my family texts. (I have some family that live abroad who want to be included in family discussions). Like you said though, it's a pain for friends because I have to encourage them to install the app and then, like you said, encourage them to turn off 'share contacts'. Its funny how we get used to everything in electronicland just working and then when there's a hiccup, how hard it is to find a smooth workaround.

Apple delights in making it hard, really hard for non Apple products to share photos and other data.
The latest boondoggle is the HEIC photo format. By default if you take a photo with you iPhone it saves it in HEIC format. JPG has been around since before cell phones, but Apple has a new and improved format, in their opinion. You can go into setting, and change the format it saves in to JPG, but default is the HEIC now. I have the latest and greatest version of Photoshop. I have to pay for it each month. I have yet to figure out how to open a HEIC image on my Win 11 computer with any converter even Photoshop. In the end, it always comes down to I am supposed to BUY and pay money for a converter "app" or extension. Screw it, I refuse to pay money just to see an image, it like what I envision the Porn industry does, pay to view. I don't do porn, or heic and on principal I refuse to pay for the add on. And then there is iTunes. THE worst bit of software ever fostered on the public. One would think just plug in the phone and open iTunes and see the photos. Yea, not gonna happen, and the phone puts them in random folders and make is too difficult to just plug in the phone and see the last photos taken. I like my iPhone, but I have no love at all for Apple.

At the launch it was announced that Disney will be producing content specifically design for the "Apple Vision Pro". I'm willing to bet that content will not be fully compatible with non Apple headsets!

I have an xs max, all my iphone photos are taken heif, and every time i export them theyre automatically converted to jpg. Email, text, imessage, whatsapp, this web site… the existence of heif is invisible to me. I wonder what youre doing differently. Also… photoshop? Wouldnt surprise me at all if adobe found a way to make it difficult. Im using a 5 year old version of capture one and its fine. I despise mac desktop and laptops but their phones are pretty great (except for itunes.) |
